Steam Controller & Steam Link Value?

I've got a pair of as new, boxed, Steam Controller & Steam Link, that I'm about to list on eBay.

The 2 existing Australian listings for Steam Controllers are $100 starting bid & $150 BIN.
The "sold" listing have prices up to $200, but I'm not sure if those listings were actually sold, or just closed listings.

What is the current true value of these?
How should I list them (auction starting bid, BIN etc) to maximise my return?
I think they should sell easier on eBay rather than FBM?

Thanks

Hard to say what value they have. They're old and discontinued, and a high learning curve that makes them hard to get used to.

I had Steam controllers about 2-3 years ago, bought them for $44.90 and then resold it used on eBay for about $60 bucks

You can price them for whatever value you think they're worth at a fixed price, then drop the price gradually. You can also send targeted notifications to people who have viewed your item on eBay.

    • I can't remember what I paid for them, but I have realised that the Steam Controller has become collectable (perhaps in a niche market) due to it being discontinued.
Even the USB receiver on its own gets listed for say $50, which seems crazy.
I might do as you suggest, listing at a fixed price and working down.
Listing as an auction with a low starting price could be risky.
      Thanks

  • If there's only 2 in all of Australia (listed on Ebay) and you're patient, list it for $200. If that's the going price, people will see the $150 as a bargain.
If you need the money ASAP, sell for $149.
There's nothing stopping you from listing on FB, Ebay and Gumtree. If it sells, end the other listings.
I see people quoting much lower prices but keep in mind people pay $2 for a can of Coke for the convenience. If they want to shop around for a bargain, let them.

My only driver to sell them now, is that I want to list them on eBay before the end of this month to take advantage of the $0 Variable Final Value Fees and 50% off any 3 Sendle Postage Labels for eBay Plus members in June.

If I understand the ebay+ offer correctly, I could do as @scrimshaw suggests and list them tomorrow as a 30 day listing, with a high starting price and gradually reduce the price over the 30 days.
Everything sells when the price is low enough.

      • Sounds like a plan.

Hold onto them and hand them down to grandkids as an inheritance

Steam Link won't be worth much. Its hardware is outdated, and tops out at 1080p. Other streaming boxes like Apple TV and Shield can now also do Remote Play.

    • Yes, I think the value is in the controller.
Maybe I'll list them individually or maybe as a bundle??

  • If the listings are green, they have been sold. Black are unsold.
eBay took away the option to see how much it actually sold for. So if an item was BIN at $300 but sold through Make An Offer at $200. It shows as sold at $300.

    • Thanks for this info. I did not know this.
So, ignoring "Best Offer" items, Australia sold Steam Controllers have been in the range $80 to $120.
"Best Offer" controllers have sold somewhere under $200.
So, maybe I'll start it at $180? (inviting best offers) and reduce it by $20 per week??

      • Perfect. That's what I would do but $10 a week and free shipping (if I had the 3 free listings a month offer active)

I bought the steam link for like $25 at EB nearly 7 years ago. Not sure how much it'll be worth now.

    • I still have mine and it's still plugged in. Used quite a bit with steamlink and moonlight. Now that nvidia gamestream has been deprecated, I haven't done the research on configuring sunshine yet so it's sitting there unused.

  • So, to follow up…

I listed it at $190 with free Australian shipping.
In the first couple of days it got very little attention.
Today, after a total of 9 views, someone clicked buy now.

Frankly, I am a little surprised it sold, so quickly, at that price.
I thought that it was a very niche product, with likely very few buyers in the Australian market.
I'm glad that I didn't list it as an auction with a $1 starting price.

So I'll send it off tomorrow, insured and signature on delivery. Fingers crossed.
