Soft Drinks in Checked-in Luggage

Hi OzbFam,

I want to take soft drinks (Agrum and Solo) plastic bottles on an international flight and plan to wrap them in plastic bags and put them in the check-in luggage.

I haven't been able to find a concrete answer on Google in terms of air pressure and if it's safe to take soft drinks in a plastic bottle on a plane.

So I turn to the community for help and suggestions.

Cheers

TLDR; can we check in soft drinks in luggage without any issues.

Cargo holds are pressurised so I dont' think it'd be a problem. I'd seal them in airtight bags to be sure though.

Won't be an issue. Planes carry soft drink all day every day.

Planes also carry jet fuel, but you can't have jet fuel in your luggage.

    Let's hope they don't freeze

  • Yes, cargo holds are pressurised and kept warm(ish), often with the same air from the plane.

Easy check, does the flight you're on allow animals in the cargo bay? If so, it'll definitely be fine. I'd still put it in something leak proof though.

  • Done that before with no issue. Just wrap them in plastic bags in case they leak.

  • A full plastic bottle can handle 3 atmospheres… You'll be fine.

Even if the jet loses all internal pressurisation, the bottle will not be affected in a way that will rupture it.

  • Problem is not the plane, more like air port security.

    • Why? Carrying liquids inside checked luggage isn't a problem.

I didn't create the rule, But there are times they didn't let through in Melb when boarding. Haven't had any issues in other airports.

You are confusing checked in and carry on luggage. There is no such rule for check in luggage.

Thanks for the replies everyone. My family will be delighted to taste the Australian delicacies; Agrum and Solo.

But why introduce them to something they might love, but cannot have regularly…torture! 😂

  • I have often checked in wine / whisky. soft drinks should be fine.

  • WTH is agrum?

(edit nvm, found it. "Agrum Citrus Blend Fresh, zesty and sophisticated, Schweppes Agrum Citrus Blend is a venture into the world of modern mixers. Natural oils from the peels of grapefruit and mandarin are paired with notes of bitter orange to create a refreshing citrus blend that can be enjoyed mixed or on its own. )
