Help Me Pick a Laptop - Budget $1,000

Hi, I am planning to buy a laptop around $1,000.

I will use it at home but it will carried around the house (inside and outside depending on the weather). It will be for working (i.e. Word, Excel, browsing, etc). No gaming at all. I don't want refurbished as I need the battery to be good. Unless I factor in replacing the battery. Anyway, I am thinking of a 14" should be sufficient. So, I am thinking of 1 of these 2:

  1. Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 5
  2. Acer Aspire 5 i5-1335U

I am leaning towards the Lenovo as it's better built. What do you think? Is there a better laptop at my budget?

Thank you.

Personally I would prefer a current gen cpu. But of the two, I'd take the Lenovo. For your use case, I'd probably pick the Macbook Air M1. Its a tad out of budget though.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but it has almost been three years since the release of the M1 Macbook Air and it's still the best value laptop around in this price range. Since you want a good battery, I can't think of any comparable Windows laptops.

  • E14 battery is meh - expect 5 hours of regular use from it on a charge (that's my experience from Gen 2). Battery in it is quite small.

Consider spending a little more for MacBook Air if you can and MacOS fits what you need it for (sounds like it does). Much better screen, much better battery life.

  • Thinkpad: not recommended, only 45% CG, this is pretty mediocre for color gamut
Acer - decent but still a bit overpriced I think

for your budget, get this one: https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-15-lap…
then buy another extra 8gb ram 3200Hz and DIY to get 16gb
