I’m getting into daily jogging and it’s been a looooong time since I bought runners.
What sort of money do I need to spend to buy something decent, and what brand (/model?) would you recommend that represent good value for money?

surely KT26 are the minimum
.
These look like they'll fall apart before you get to the end of the street.
Perfect for a forum bot.
I’ve been eyeing the hoka mark 5 but want it sub 150 before I’ll jump.
I didn’t mind the ASICS gel kayano but imo the quality on them has gone way downhill
For under $100 I think the current Saucony Ride/Guide 15 at Running Warehouse would probably qualify as "good value running shoes". However there aren't many mens sizes left for Ride 15.
You can normally pick up quality running shoes from each of the big name running shoe brands for sub $150 if you are willing to purchase shoes that are 1 to 2 versions behind their most updated model. Personally I love Brooks but any of Asics, Saucony, Hoka or even new balance are great.
Brooks Divide 4 is $120 at The Athletes foot which is a good running shoe suited to road and light trails.

If you are going to be running regularly and think you might even begin park runs and other events then I'd recommend forking out for a visit to The Running Company, if you have 1 near. They will measure you up, get you to jog on a treadmill that they film and play back in slow mo to look at your running landing to see if you need any type of support shoes for pronation or supination. The catch is you pay RRP for the shoes, so looking at $250-$300 for that experience.

people really seriously worry about that sorta shit?
Haha yeah I think some people do but I don't understand it either
What surfaces are you running on?
For softer surfaces (grass, etc…) I like Salomon.
Id be going to Athletes Foot to get fitted. Their fit guarantee means that if you buy something and it doesnt feel right after a few runs you can take it back to swap it for something else.
Something I don't understand about Athletes Foot, the usual size is 9, their software suggested between 8 and 9.5, and they didn't have size 9 so they try to offload size 10 with inserts. Now I question their software, is it real or just a gimmick?
they are doing anything they can to get a sale… they'd sell you size 17 and inserts if they could.
Mizuno Wave is a good bang for the buck for me, you can find them for around $100. I wouldn't buy running shoes without the plastic stabilizer platform anymore. I feel like I am less likely to twist my ankle with this type of shoe.
