    High-performance Intel Celeron N4020 processor

    Typical Kogan.

      Compared to a calculator, sure.

The Intel Celeron N4020 is a slow dual-core processor (SoC) of the Gemini Lake Refresh product family. The processor was launched in Q4 2019. Its CPU cores run at 1.1 GHz to 2.8 GHz, the latter being a moderate 200 MHz upgrade over the preceding N4000 chip.
While slightly faster than the outgoing Celeron N4000, this is a very unimpressive CPU no matter how you slice it. As far as multi-thread performance is concerned, the average Celeron N4020 in our database barely manages to outgun the i5-4210Y, a processor of nearly the same energy efficiency that was launched so many years ago (in 2013, to be exact). Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c and Intel Celeron N4500 are close nearby as well. All in all, per-thread and per-MHz performance of Gemini Lake Refresh processors are nothing to write home about, rendering them usable for basic tasks only such as word processing and web browsing with just two or three tabs open.

just because something is cheap, doesn't make it a deal.

Think I'd rather take the punt with the GK 3 Mini pc for $10 bucks more. Win 11 OS, 16GB RAM / 512GB storage and 12th gen 4-core CPU

      😘😘

  • This is not a bad deal considering you get a Windows license.

I have something similar (AliExpress) with a J3160 that runs my home assistant beautifully.

Saying that, N4020 is really basic (dual core) and I would probably give this a miss.

    • you should get a windows license with all of them

whether its legit or not… eh?

Cheap it ain't, shit it is…. get one of the USFF coming off lease. You can get N100 if you want something with a better CPU from Ali for this price with better specs also

  • 2nd hand Intel NUC wins

  • +4

What could you even do with this potato?

    • +4

you can use it to go to kogan and buy more shit

  • +4

Trash, don't buy this. Can get a mini PC with much better specs for around the same price. This has a crappy dual core processer.

  • Not sure I see the value over a re-con SSF pc?

  • +5

this junk would barely run Windows.

  • Is there any mini pc with enough sata ports to build a NAS?

    • Most Ultra small form factor PC's (NUC-Like) generally aren't big enough to hold more than 1 or 2 hard drives. You might need to buy a Mini ITX board with embedded processor and build one yourself if you want more than 2 drives.

    • Or get a JBOD RAID enclosure or just use the USB ports on a USFF. I do this with my Dell 4590T with 2 x 5TB USB drives attached to it. Given 5Gbps on USB3 and spindle drives will only do around 100MB/s throughput on SATA (800mb/s), its not flooding the USB port for serving content.

    • I recently found this Topton Mini PC that has 2x 3.5" SATA and 2x M.2 NVMe slots for building your own DIY NAS. The slower AMD Athlon processors with 4x 1GbE are cheaper than the Ryzen 5500U 2x 2.5GbE option.

It would be better value going for an ITX build suggested by scrimshaw. Otherwise many of the HP refurbished desktops will have 2-4 SATA slots and then you can use enclosures as suggested by CachePC to add more storage.

  • For the price this is a fairly bad deal. The only advantage I can think of is that this would be taxable as it's "New". Otherwise, a refurbed item would be much faster for the same or less.

  • Should nominate kogan to shonky reward?

Avoid! To put it into perspective, a client who was very money focused (read cheap) declined our suggested PC and instead purchased an All-in-one from Harvey Norman with similar specs (with a Pentium processor) and brand new out of the box was absolutely rubbish.

I showed the client the issues as they appeared (simply getting through the OOBE was hair pulling. I showed the client how my time was blowing out and showed the slowness and 100% CPU/MEM usage and suggested returning it for something more suitable which they agreed to.

Selling computers so grossly under-speced should be illegal. You're better off having no computer than struggling to use something like this 'deal'.

  • these are not worth anything unless they have dual nic so you can use them for a particular task

  • This bloke is a good reviewer of mini pcs.
