Keyboard - GMMK Pro or Equivalent High Qual Barebones Kit (75/TKL)

Sick of my office keyboard and looking to bring my custom build to the office and start a new project for home

Have a Zoom75 on the way but won't be coming for months yet (Sept/Oct). Looking for a budget friendly option to fill the void as both a project and WFH /home workhorse.

Prefer hot swappable, with screw in stabs. Looking for thock/creamy achieved through customisation.

Was thinking GMMK Pro and currently can pick one up fron Amazon for about $220 (Inc 5% discount code). But maybe there's a better price / source, or another option I could consider?

i use a nk65 by novel keys but it maybe small if you use function keys a lot though it has VIA so you can do like 3 or 4 layers

    • Any local suppliers?

      • dont think so

  • I had the GMMK Pro for a year or so, and a few months back bought an Akko MOD007S V2.
To me, the Akko is much nicer.
The MonsGeek M1 is made by Akko and (exactly?) the same as the MOD007S V2.

    • Funnily enough, the MonsGeek M1 is the one I'll be taking to the office! I guess the case is a bit different but watching the Akko unboxing it looks like to be more or less the same.
Appreciate the MOD007S comes in some other colourways aside from black and white.

  • get a Royal Kludge RK871 (RK68 PLUS)

    • Haven't heard too much about Royal Kludge. What are your thoughts on them, and this board?

      • Royal Kludge is one of the leading budget-priced mechanical keyboard brands from China, and China is the most competitive market in the world for mechanical keyboard.
My advice is start from something cheap and work the way up. So you know what you actually need. The when I mention above only cost $75 for a complete keyboard.

        • Monsgeek M1 was my first custom. Prior to that I had keychrons more or less stock.

Happy to give RK a go for the price point, especially given it comes with wireless

  • If you're already getting something else in Sept and just bridging the gap, not sure why you would be looking for something High Quality? Just get something cheap, or even better, wait a couple of months till your Zoom75 comes?

    • I guess 'high qual' depends on who you ask. Some people spend ludicrous amounts on their Keyboards. Consider this my way of saying good or "not shite", to avoid recommendations for all the cheap plastic junk.

The Zoom 75 will replace this, but I may end up gifting whatever I build when it does. I want it to be pretty good for me for the next few months, and good then for who I may gift it to.

  • Mongeek M1. Youre welcome.

    • That's the one I have now that's moving to the office. Ideally I'd like to do something different. Although… I do love my one now

      • Can you just not move it to the office until the zoom shows up?
