  • +1 on Expensive postage, even for 2 Samsung drives for me and my brother $20 for postage what a joke.

  • +3

For those who can pickup, PCDIY has the Intel 330 120GB for $99 or $100 from MSY. Otherwise, pretty good deal!

    • +3

I picked up the 120GB Intel from MSY for $100 on the weekend. My first SSD :)

I haven't had to reinstall the OS since windows 7 came out. Quite the opposite to the crap they called vista.

  • What is the better pick between the 240gb Kingston or the 240gb Sandisk? Cheers.

    • My pick is the Sandisk, but do your own compare on Google.

    • +5

      @Hercules,
The 240GB Sandisk Extreme is the better/faster SSD as it uses Toggle NAND

      Regards,
      Roberta

  • Much better shipping, Thankyou

Personally will pay $10 extra to buy local for peace of mind warranty. I know this is not very OZ bargain minded but hey.. sometimes $10 is not worth the pain and possibly having to pay more on postage for RMA.

From my (limited) understanding of Australian consumer protection laws, it is the sellers resposibility to pay for return postage:

      http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/1026241#to…

Do I have to pay to return the goods to the seller?

The consumer guarantees require you to return goods to the place where they were purchased unless it is not reasonable for you to do so. For example, it would be reasonable to expect you to return an item if you were able to easily take it away with you when you purchased it. However, if the item is large, heavy or bulky or needed to be delivered, the seller should arrange for this to be returned.

Whilst that's the ruling set out by ACCC, have a read in the forums how often it's flaunted. It's going to take time and money and a painful experience to try to RMA sometimes.

It's like when i bought a 2nd hand car, it was clearly stated that all defects IS to be covered by the dealer as the car is under 120k kms and below the age of 10 years old. How the car passed the inspection with a leaky exhaust is already questionable. When asked to fix the issue.. they never did… a few times. I contacted fair trade… yada yada bla bla.. they showed a "receipt" of them fixing it. Needed to pay to go to court .. bla bla bla…

Forget it. Not worth the couple of hundreds and my time.

So again.. whist it may be listed as a rule.. dodgy people will be dodgy people.

      • ShoppingSquare make you pay for return postage, even when they admit the item was defective. We posted a faulty tablet back twice. They refunded our money when it was still faulty, but minus the three postage amounts (one to get it sent to us, the other two to send it back). We were out of pocket over $40 at the end it all. Other times we have been sent incorrect items from SSquare and they have denied that they sent the wrong thing (different brand, missing parts). I'm not saying don't buy this, just caveat emptor.

    • Indeed. I'm going to try to get a price match out of my local Centrecom. I have nothing against ShoppingSquare, but its just easier to buy locally (even if the local companies can be asses about it).

  • small staffs usually shipped from hongkong, slow slow

    how about this time?

  • What's the better drive out of Intel 330, Samsung and SanDisk? 120GB range if that makes a difference (I'm not bothered about the Samsung's extra 8GB, just want a fast reliable drive)

    • +4

Exactly the order you listed them in

    • +1

The Samsung 830 has the most proven trackrecord of reliabilty (for current gen drives)
The Intel 330 is a much newer drive so there isn't as much data to go from but so far there haven't been any bad reports about it. Intel's previous model drives were the most reliable ones available.
The Sandisk has a Sandforce controller which have had many reliability problems since being released.

  • They are my picks too, I think I'll be getting the Intel 330.

  • +1

Wish there was a deal on the Samsung 830 256GB =(

How is this a bargain? Same pretty much everyday price from MSY when freight considered.

Ozbargain used to be about true bargains, not just an advertising site where retailers who finally drop their price to match others get kudos.

  • +2

some of these prices before the sale are horrendous. Deceptive savings.

  • Just let everyone know, they ship them from HK. So not sure how warranty will be like. Better to pay an extra $10 and buy it from a brick and mortar store

  • MSY have sandisk 480gb ssd for $379

  • +1

Wish someone would have a special on the 64GB 830

  • Bought the Sandisk 120GB, the power connector broke when I plugged it into my computer. Had to jump through hoops and argue back and forth with the support team until I got an email from Kingston telling me I would get it replaced and to contact the place of purchase. Bit disappointed with the support, price was meh, centrecom.com.au is selling them at the same price.

    • +10

      Kingston is replacing the Sandisk?

      • They just do their RMA I guess :-P
