What Do You Wear to Keep Your Legs Warm?

With the temperatures dropping, and getting older, I am feeling that my out of fashion skinny jeans are too thin and don't provide enough warmth. We've got jackets for our tops, but I find my legs are always feeling cold too.

I remember years ago, I had a great pair of corduroy jeans (fine corduroy, not chunky), they were lovely and thick, and actually kept me warm. What do you wear to keep your legs warm while still looking presentable? I don't want head out in track pants!

I accidentally got these fleece lined jeans earlier in the year - was a mistake at the time - wearing them right now - some mistakes turn out good.

    • where did you get them?

Search "Lee fleece lined jeans" on Amazon. I got them for I think around $25 - all results I quickly checked now return double or triple that.

I just wear the cheapest track pants available.

Usually I’m fine with jeans. However recently I’ve replaced my hands with helicopters, and I’ve found if I have my hands in my pockets, the exhaust from the gas turbine engines keeps my legs warm but the rotors keep tearing up my jeans, exposing my legs to the cold air. Hopefully I can solve this problem with some helicopter rotor mittens or something.

Straight jeans or chinos with thermals underneath. There’s also, some pretty acceptable fleece lined trousers for colder parts of the country eg https://www.uniqlo.com/au/en/products/E450281-000?colorCode=…

      with thermals underneath

      in the Goldie?

      • Nope, but if going somewhere colder, especially having acclimatised to QLD. I was commenting on men’s fashion more generally from what I’ve observed. I’m female and on the goldy still wearing shorts most of the time on non work days (though wore straight jeans today) and just regular trousers or dresses with tights on work days. Hubby pretty much always wears chinos outside of short wearing season, and wears thermals underneath if going somewhere cold. I kind of assume a post like this on ozb is from a male unless otherwise specified as I believe the majority of users are male.

winter has been so harsh in QLD this year. those single digit figures for that 24 hour period nearly killed me

          • @altomic: It has been cold but warms up pretty quickly during the day. I rarely leave the house before 730am luckily. Early morning walks have definitely not been inspiring of late. I think Bris is just a little colder than GC. Tomorrow is forecast to reach 26 here!

Thermals under fleece pants. Thick long socks as well if super cold.

Can just wear thermal leggings under skinny jeans or any pants really. I do this on the motorcycle and it's fine for me even when it gets under 10 degrees where I live in QLD.

Throw some Uniqlo heattech under everything.

  • Cold showers in general warms your core.

    • Yeah, thats it.
Cold showers + building muscle mass.
Build up those brown fat reserves.
Do it everyday and you wont even feel the cold.

  • Agree with thermals (Uniqlo heat tech) underneath whatever pants you want to wear.

  • Long Johns as above Cheap on EBay

  • I bought some really warm pants from Damart online - have a look at their thermal collection. I find it light weight and easy to wash and wear. I think they may still have a sale on at present but you can check. They have different levels of warmth in their clothing in this line.

  • The skin of my victims.

  • I am female. Long socks under Just Jeans Amaze chinos works for me a lot of the time. Boody leggings under a long sleeve dress and a cardigan is also a cosy outfit.

  • 100% cotton or 100% wool thermal underwear, underneath your pants/jeans. Don't get synthetic, makes you sweaty and itchy.

  • Thermal leggings under pants. Or fleece linned pants. Also woolen socks or wear 2 pairs at a time. These things are beneficial for me (issue: Raynaud's).

Super surprised at the number of posts above wearing thermals. Had no idea. Thought thermals were for wearing to the snow.

    I wear track pants.

    • When you are in Tassie where the temperature can be 1c or lower (real feel even lower than that) then thermal is very helpful. Wearing track pants without underlayer is bit too optimistic :D

  • Long underpants with blue jeans.
    Works for me
But make sure they're cotton NOT SYNTHETIC.
Never felt comfortable when I used to be less discriminating in my choice of fabric, wearing any sort of synthetic clothing … always 100% cotton now.
