im looking for a 2tb hard drive either internal or external whichever is cheapest. i already have a spare 3.5" sata case. The reason for getting the drive is purey to backup my other 2tb drive should it fail.
i have all my movies, apps, music, family videos & pics taking up 1.3 tb of my 2tb hd. i got to thinking if this drive breaks down im going to lose my movies…the family vids & pics are safely backed up to dvds but im not really wanting to put in the time, cost and effort to back up my hubdreds of movies, apps & music to dvd also……or should i do that instead do you think?
Scorptec has 2TB starting from $111, so that at least gives you a guide.
Note however that DVDs are no good for long term backup. If you are creating a new set each year or two, this is fine, but if you are just putting them in a box and expecting them to work 10 years from now you may be in for a nasty surprise.
If you want to make all of this easier you may also want to look into a NAS unit that you can put your 2 drives in redundantly. This is still vulnerable to power spikes and heat issues though, so manuall copying and storing one of the drives (preferably at a different location) is still safer.
