Thanks! I booked a few days ago. Manage to cancel for free and get double cash back!

    • That is awesome!
      You are welcome

  • Expiry date?

Usually 11:59pm for upsized cashback but these offers come around every few days (CR and SB)

I used to book liberally through CR but I found now they jack up the price 90%+ of the time. Make sure you check prices before enabling CR and then after.

100% this. The last few times I found out it’s either actually more expensive to book through via cash back or only slightly cheaper (~2% or so).

I found the prices to be "unjacked" for all the accommodation I was searching in Europe. But in Asia, "jacking" was very common. So it's not consistent or sitewide.

As you say, it pays to check prices and use all available methods to get the best deal (discussed at length in previous threads).

    • Was just about to see if anyone else noticed this besides me, it's noticeably more as well

    • I always check on a desktop browser as well…you are correct though it is sometimes more expensive via the app

    • Either book direct with the hotel as they usually guarantee a cheaper price, if they aren’t cheaper, call them and ask them for it and they will usually beat it, they would rather not pay commission

    • I've stopped using CR with booking.com precisely because of this.
      Offensive, really.

    • for stays before sept 28*
  • If I cancel a booking and it's currently booked out will it become available again instantly?

    • +3

Risky if the date is near. If it's ahead in time better chances

    • Yes usually within 5 minutes of cancelling.

  • Oh it hurts! I booked yesterday, payments already made.

    • +1

      no free cancellation?

    • +1

      Always pay at the premises.

      • Does it trackable? Never tired that.

        • +1

Why not? Never had an issue with cashback and I always pay at the place.

          • @Azro: Thanks. Will do next time.

      • why?

        • +2

No need to chase for a refund if you can't make it for any reason. Flexibility in changing dates or rebooking if the price decreased or you find something else.

  • Can we use travel credits and wallet credits and still get the cashback?

    • +1

      My guess is this applies:

Purchases using any type of discount which lowers price advertised on the Merchant site, including but not limited to employee discounts, student discounts and price-matching.

      But not 100% sure

  • Can you choose pay at premise and then pay in cash? Will that still track?

    • Shouldn't be a problem. It tracks instantly when you make a booking even without payment.

  • Are flight and hotel bookings eligible? I assume when it says flights - it is flights only?

    • No only accomodation

  • Such a weird website.

Before enabling CR: "You’re getting 15% off the original price due to multiple deals and benefits." - comes to $289

After enabling CR: only the normal 10% genius discount, $304, but would work out better after (if and only if) the CR 12% pays out - $268

Do they know CR has the thing going so they want to tempt people with a larger than normal discount?

  • I've booked my accomo and wish to cancel so that I can rebook it. But I don't seem to see any 10% genius discount when I try to book (haven't yet cancelled yet I was checking to see if I could still get the discount), I had originally booked with a 10% genius discount applied. Is it because I can only have 1x 10% genius discount booking at a time?

Weirdly it has expire already, strange to have such a short time for the higher cashback
