Thats not true, the majority of the ones you purchase at shops in japan are made in china.
Not that many people willing to part with $60 for a tiny thermos. I bought a Japanese Tiger brand one for almost that price when I went there years ago but I cant imagine what inflation would have done to those prices.

I was in Tokyo last week. Usually Amazon JP is the cheapest, even cheaper if you order from AUS as you are not paying the 10% tax. There might be occasions which you can buy it cheaper over there but if you have a lot of time shopping around.
