Spotlight Bargain Guarantee Wasn't Accepted

I was in-store asking for bargain guarantee for Cricut Machine, they said its not applicable to Cricut machine.

I checked the T&C no such thing is written there, and proceed to call the CS, which they confirmed that there is no such thing. Handed the phone to the lady who rejected the "Bargain Guarantee" overheard that she is not happy to give the deals away and handed over the phone to me.

The CS on the phone then told me that it is not applicable as it's depend on the store decision. This has blown my mind, this offer should be on company level as they listed on their website but then turns out that it is not, again it not written anywhere in their website that it's depend on the store decision.

end of rant, I am over with spitlight.

  • Edit: She did asked me why didnt I buy it from the retailer that have it on sale, I said cos you can beat it by 10% (rolls my eyes) hence I guess that why they rejected me

Out of curiosity, which retailer has it on sale?

      • Yea curious to know this as well. I don't think any other retailer has it cheaper than spotlight (aka they are all the same price as spotlight)

        • Harvey Norman, Amazon, OW selling for $198 at the moment.

    • I said cos you can beat it by 10% (rolls my eyes)

Courtesy goes a long way. Entitlement & mocking a store assistant does not.

Ask a stupid question get a stupid answer. If they have a price match policy they shouldn't even say that

It's not such an outlandish query & certainly doesn't warrant eye-rolling. The SA may have been new and never previously dealt with a claim under the policy.

I've requested OW to honour their PBG on many occasions and a few times, the SA wasn't aware of the process and said no & I just politely asked them to consult with a manager.

I've also been asked why I didn't just buy it at the competitor with the lower price & I explained that the OW store is located closer so it's also more convenient. Most of the policies don't cover out-of-stock/may charge for delivery too so the SA query is relevant.

Some SAs go through the whole rigmarole of calling the other store & confirming that it's in-stock even when I've provided my phone with the online details clearly showing stock availability. I've never rolled my eyes at them even through it took up unnecessary additional time to process the purchase.

It's all just part & parcel of retail shopping & not worth getting worked up over a 5/10% reduction in price. It's not a Sydney mansion, for goodness sake!

@[Deactivated]: I am not mocking them, they are the ones that first come with annoyed tones when I mentioned that I wanted to price guarantee for cricut joy machine.
The banner for price guarantee is pretty much everywhere, I am at the service desk, the price guarantee is right behind the counter in big banner.

If they were nice, I wouldn't gave them attitude as well.

IMO, the employee should received appropriate training regarding their company policies, customers shouldn't have to explain their company policy to them, especially if they are supervisor or Assistant Manager, if they just a part-timer, I can understand.

The stock is available at the Office Work which pretty much next door to them, which I did tell them "next door Office Work selling for $198 and I would to claim Price Guarantee from you." They don't need to phone, they just need to walk next door to check.

It's about honouring their policy which clearly written in their website not the money, also 5/10% does make difference for some people not everyone are well off.

@chiesel21: I get it - some of the Spotlight assistants at my nearest store seem to have a permanent case of the grumps. We all match energy at times but if you're wanting the sales people to get on your side then it won't work to do so.

Also, expecting a SA to physically leave their store to confirm a price at a competitor's store is a bit much even if it is within the same complex.

also 5/10% does make difference for some people not everyone are well off.

Come on now - you're spending ~$200 on a Cricut Machine so unless it's edible, it's not essential

  • many stores of different companies reject clearly stated terms and conditions like they are going to have to pay the company themselves for the amount you save. Disappointing.

That’s pretty disappointing. Is the sale still on? If so I’d be ringing their store manager, and saying that you want them to honour their own advertisement.

It’s fair enough for a store to have T&C’s that exclude certain items on a sale, because they just make very little profit on them, but this is not the case. It’s hard for me to say without actually being there, but if the terms don’t list that in any way, or that it’s at individual store discretion then it sounds frankly like the sales officer was being intentionally obnoxious - but that’s not necessarily the case, she could have just been chewed out by a manager who for whatever reason decided it wouldn’t be on Cricut.

Either way, if they say they will beat competitors then that’s what they need to be doing.

    • Maybe cut out the middleman.I'd be emailing head office and get in writing where the policy states the stores can make or bend company policy, and accept a goodwill gesture of the Cricut at the 10% less price as an appeasement. Nothing to lose unless OP has already snaffled a Cricut. You are right about the store dynamics. Some ppl are not menat to interface with other humnas, let alone work in retailt. And let's face it customers can be real ****s

I’ve stopped trying to price match or beat at retailers with policies in place that actively encourage the practice, more often than not you end up looking like a fool and getting embarrassed. Once a fellow customer even started heckling me and other staff then joined in name calling etc - I wrote in and complained and received a turse “get over yourself” type response. I’m looking at you officeworks.

only thing that could have made them care would have been recording your experience and releasing it on the internet

      sounds like they were bargainphobic

Should be like water off a ducks back. Maybe this ozbargain life isn't suitable for you.

honestly i like annoying the employees.. sometimes i'll do it even without intention of buying the item.

        What happened to you?

    I am over with spitlight.

They just called and said they are shattered with your decision

  • Yeah, Spotlight is not good in this type of thing and customer service in general. I’ve had issues with returns on clearly faulty stuff and they give you the run around, try to make you return to the manufacturer rather than accept the return in store.

I only use them now if they are the only shop that has it, if it’s very discounted or when they have those vouchers where it works out to be almost free.

  • I've had Spotlight deny me a price beat simply because it was too busy. There were about 6 customers in line and the woman said a price beat would hold the other customers up. They really can refuse their own policy at the store's discretion and their discretion could be over anything.

  • But why is it up to the store? They are not a franchise. It doesnt effect the employees in the store.
