Am I missing something here? Chicken necks are $2.50/kg at the local butcher.

    • My local butcher doesn’t sell them. They’re 6.50/kg at coles and you lose about 2/3 weight. So it’s about $19.50/kg to make and it ties your oven up for 10-24 hours.

Not much extra to buy them pre made in a packet.

      • You downvote me because you shop at Coles? Guess you can be downvoted when you're already at the bottom.

        • I couldn't find anything remotely close to $2.50/kg and therefore this was a good deal. But I have found some around that price. So I apologise and have asked for the neg to be removed.

Still its a PITA to make at home, and I couldn't get them as dry as the pre-packaged ones and was worried about contamination.

The main deal was the beef liver, and I just saw the chicken necks were on sale and added them.

  • Can the chicken neck be a choking hazard for a Maltese Poodle??

    • Might be so I never bought one for my cavoodle

    • They're pretty brittle and crunchy, my old Bichon had no problems with them, my Brittany smashes them within seconds

      • Thanks I bought some as it says it's ideal for small dogs to help with their dental.

Blackdog can have variable quality control so hopefully you get a good batch, I always supervise my pooches when they get bones/chews/ears etc.
I've also found pig ears have cleaned my Cavoodles teeth and kept them sparkling, I cut them up into quarter's and he gets one a night.

          • @[Deactivated]: Are the pigs ears soft enough to cut?

            • @nightelves: The bow-wow ones are crumbly enough that a good pair of kitchen shears gets through them, sometimes you can even snap them, my wife does struggle a bit though, you can buy pig ear strips but they cost more

  • Thanks, bought Beef Liver for my cavoodle

    • They're pretty rich, my cavoodle gets toxic turds if I feed him too many, but he does love them

Once mistook liver treats for biltong, that was a terrible day to have tastebuds.

  • This is a fantastic price compared to what I normally pay to the wholesalers. It's $5 less than what the wholesalers' charge (with subscribe and save) and free shipping too (bought 5 thank you)

How often do you feed the liver to your dogs? I give my greyhound a bunch once a week and it turns his waste a dark colour

    • Atm I mainly use them for training treats. So couple times a week my dog gets about a handful?

    • Have an upvote for greyhound

  • Thanks, bought 2. Was trying to repurchase for days but didnt want to pay $43.
