8GB Kingston DDR3 RAM $39 @ ITestate

120

For anyone looking for RAM it $10 cheaper than msy with better service and you will get the item. I was thinking about getting this for my new build but don’t really need it so just posting it up for peps who need some RAM.

I have used Kingston RAM before had no problems.

They only have one store at north rocks, NSW but i think they do delivery not too sure how much they charge for that.

Edit: Make sure you have a 64 bit operating system ( OS ) as Mrz said 32-bit OS's can only uses up to 3.5 GB of RAM!!

  • I would suggest people check their OS first, as most 32-bit OS's can only address up to 3.5 GB of RAM!!

    • +1

yeah forgot to say that added it to my post.

    • only some operating systems have this limitation.
If you want, you could create a fast ramdisk or swapfile or whatever, to use the extra ram

  • What is the better option out of 2x8GB vs 4x4GB running at the same frequency?

I'm guessing 4x4GB will perform a little better due to more data channels, but can anyone confirm?

    • go 4x8GB then.

frankly, you won't get real world difference in this case.
you would be getting better ram than this one if you are serious about performance.

    • no real performance difference between the two only difference i think would be the price and the expanability of the ram but i might be wrong.

    • If you have a dual channel motherboard such as LGA 1155/1156 having 4 sticks would not increase the speed, it will add heat more than anything so 2x8gb will be better. However if you have an LGA 2011 motherboard it supports quad channel, so 4 sticks is the way to go and will increase your speed over just two sticks.

      • this sort of value ram (without heat sink fins) will always have issues of heat, that's why anyone asking about performance/freq and cares about their build shouldn't even be considering using these rams.

LGA 2011 allows you to have 8 slots of DIMM, it is quite foolish to just populate only 4 just because of the perceived 'speed' increase over 2.

eg. if ram is cheap, and photoshop user is not inclined enough to know whats good, just get 4x8gb of these for their 1155/1156, end of story. Motherboard is maxed out on ram, adobe runs smoothly. Wait till motherboard/cpu goes obsolete/carks it, and look for new deals again.

CAS timings, ram speed, channels etc have tens of pages of reviews done on the net, it's not a simple 1 post answer unfortunately.

if anyone is half serious/concerned about performance (ie. OCing), then they shouldn't be even looking at using such ram.

  • Personally, i've not enthusiastic about itestate. I've tried to order from them twice (pickup as they arent far away) and both times its gone into some "waiting state". both times i'll send them an email, get a canned reply of:

    Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for emailing to IT Estate we have received your email and will get back to you as soon as we can.

This is an auto-reply email please do not reply.

And then never hear back from them… wait one week, send email again, same thing. While i have no issue getting someone on the phone, during work hours it can be annoying to do so and for companies selling tech, email should be at least vaguely important.

    • not that greatest but it closet hardware store near me, yeah i do email and never get a response it not hard to get a person on email but atleast they answer there phone unlike msy auburn.

    • mmm, yeah just today i picked up a case and found out it wasn't the right one and they ordered in the wrong one… Got my money back but still annoying :\

  • syd only? how much is shipping, you need to create an account to find out and im too lazy for that lol

    • Freight Charge: $11.0 lazy bum :D

      so not worth it

      • thx :) - nvm then - umart has 8gb gskill for $42 for those that cant pickup.

  • Good deal (for the price). However, these Kingston Value RAM 1600Mhz ones do have high latency setting (basically, increase the latency to achieve 1600Mhz… not exactly sure you get the true benefit of 1600Mhz this way).

Wish the deal was available earlier… already bought DDR3 RAMs a few weeks back.

    • not sure about cas 11 but most benchmarks had 0% real life difference between cas 9/8/7

      • it only matters if you are overclocking.

  • webpage says $69 to buy??

    • think they changed the price lol that was fast.

      • It Estate: "Oh sh!t we are getting ozbargained, quick raise the price"
