This Kilchoman bundle is not for everyone. Their whiskies are young, and as of 2012 was the only other malt whisky distillery in the world that did farm to bottle (grew their own barley, floor malted, distilled and bottled on site), besides Redlands in Tasmania before they changed name to Old Kempton.
I've tried the Kilchoman Sauternes cask from about 10 years ago, and it's great. Not many distilleries use sauternes casks, the only other peated one I can think of is the Bruichladdich Octomore 4.2 Comus, that now costs about $1k at auction (lol I have a case), and the 12.2 or 13.2, and maybe a Benriach or something. Glenmorangie have one in their core range, the Nectar d'Or.
This Mezcal is is the weird one. I don't recall having tried a Mezcal finished malt whisky and I like trying new things. The director of AWAS told me that the Mezcal "has perhaps the most unique profile i've tasted, and it keeps changing over time, like a bag of mixed lollies."
So there you go, if you like peat and like trying new things, grab this because $160 for a single cask Kilchoman is incredible value. I've paid double that importing them from the UK and getting caught by customs.
Is this like Kikkoman?
