About $19 per TB.
Unknown brand, at least to my knowledge. But this might be good for someone.

the brand should be changed to
An Ïllusion
Over 3 years for those wondering
Someone got some retired ex-datacenter drives bought in bulk and made a side business of repackaging them as PS5 and Xbox console external drives. Unethical, but clever.
To be fair, for just storing console games it's not a bad deal. Worst that can happen is you redownload some games if the drive fails.
Better than sending them to e waste I think.
Edit: of course it would be good if this was disclosed though
This sort of product wouldn't fly in Australia with our stricter consumer laws, using old parts and disguising it as new would get you a letter from the ACCC.
“When you sell a product as new but it is made of used parts, you are clearly breaching the law by making a false or misleading representation,” ACCC deputy chair, Delia Rickard, said.
If the past 3 years has taught me anything it's "authorities" only uphold the "laws" that suit them. https://www.knowyourrightsgroup.com.au/
Wouldn't fly but doesnt matter. The company I work for buys refurb and re-sells them as BRAND NEW.
I agree with the sentiment, but yes everything should be up front, and it should probably be cheaper, they must get those drives for next to nothing
How much cheaper is this than the going rate? Is the best deal usually the WD 12tB for 299 or 399 (can't remember sorry)
Edit: looks like 16tb for 382, or bare Seagate Ironwolf 16Tb for 249. At those prices is this really worth it? Also you would want a decent warranty with it
Where are the 16TB for $249?
it was a real deal amazon/us which lasted about 15 seconds 2 months ago
Would much prefer the 'now' bargain prices to compare.
@Big L: 16 TB for $38, ooh, I think I'll buy a dozen!
(not! these would definitely be much smaller drives that lie about their capacity)
thought this was a PS5 for a second…
I saw this the other day, nearly bought one and posted but figured something was fishy.
You saved yourself from buying a used hard drive being disguised as new that could die at any time. You can't shove a used internal hard drive into a new external enclosure and call it a totally brand new product.
This brand should be banned on Ozbargain.
Report of used hard drive inside of these according to review on Amazon. And that it died after 3 months. I guess for a price which seems too good to be true.

Avoid this product like the plague! They reuse old hard drives and re-sell them to you in this product! Like another review, mine lasted 3 months before it died by itself! No damage, no fall, nothing. I was just running some scans on it and it died by itself. YOU ARE NOT GETTING A GOOD DEAL HERE. Save yourself the headache and get an actual good and new drive for more money."

Basically a used hard drive with who knows how many hours on it shoved inside of a new external HDD case. It's probably ex mining hard drives which have been worked to death.
I mean proper 8TB external desktop hard drives go for say at Officeworks for $315 or more. And those have a proper brand new 3.5" HDD inside of it.
According to reddit and deeper down in the Amazon reviews these have used HDDs inside. The reddit post seemed to have a HGST Ultrastar Helium He8 6TB HDD with a whopping 28393 power on hours. Ex-enterprise drives bought on the cheap and stuck in enclosures.
Avolusion have certainly figured out a smart way to make a few bucks.
