Best deal I found while looking for decent IPS 27" QHD monitors.
Reasonably well rated on rtings

    Hmm, it's ultrawide yet the resolution is 2560x1440?? Shouldn't a 21:9 screen be 3360x1440?

    • +3

Looks like Officeworks messed up the description. G50A is not ultrawide.

    • +1

I think these monitors have a feature where if a game supports ultrawide in a way where it gives you extra FOV vs 16:9 users, then you can use it to gain a competitive advantage without needing an actual ultrawide.

So it would essentially tell the game you're using an ultrawide and shrink the image to fit on a 16:9 with black bars on the top and bottom.

Obviously this would only be advantageous if the gameplay was mostly close quarters and extra FOV is favoured over spotting tiny enemies in the distance.

      • +1

That seems to be the case, there's a monitor setting to force an aspect ratio of 21:9. A visual demonstration can be seen on their official site:

        https://www.samsung.com/au/monitors/flat/odyssey-g50a-27-inc…

      • +3

Can't you just select a 21:9 aspect ratio in the game and the game (rather than the monitor) then puts black bars top and bottom?

        • You might be able to add a custom resolution but typically the resolutions the monitor doesn't support will be hidden.

165hz 1ms gtg and other specs here

    • I hope none of you believes this can really achieve 1ms gtg..

      • I hope everyone believes it

How does this monitor compare to the Gigabyte M27Q (Priced $459 at Centre Com)? I've also seen recommendations for the Dell S2721DGF when it goes on sale but it looks like it's been discontinued.

    • +1

M27Q got lots of ports and KVM - hardware unboxed have it as one of their fav and I think rated higher than the samsung.
DGF is very hard to find at a reasonable price. I have one and it's amazing but no stock anywhere near this price

      • does this 1 still have the bgr pixel layout?

        • Newer one m27q p or g27q oe m27q a or whatever theh name them . All got rid of the bgr

          • @Coppermelt: So this one would be the better choice for non-bgr?

            https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/monitors/27-33-inch/9717…

Hmm, think I'll pull the trigger on this M27Q P.

There's a good sale on the Cooler Master GM32-FQ (https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/monitors/27-33-inch/1008…), but no idea if it's any good. Never heard of Cooler Master doing monitors.

            • @Shootinputin89: I like the gigabyte a lot more

              • +1

@Coppermelt: Yeah, same. I watch Unware Unboxed, but usually skip Monitors Unboxed, because they discuss monitors that are typically available on the US market, but typically not here, or at least, not at a good price. This M27Q P looks like the real deal though, going to order it tomorrow. Handing my Acer Predator XB271HU to my partner - it has served me well, but it has an earlier version of Gsync, and I've just switched to an AMD GPU. Such BS they tried locking people into certain brands of GPU to begin with.

  • No G-Sync or Freesync for anyone considering

edit: nevermind, officeworks specs are inaccurate, use samsung's specs

can i use amd gpu for this monitor?

    • +1

Yes, I'm currently using a RX570 with this monitor.

  • would this monitor be good choice? through HDMI with rtx3060 laptop

    • +1

rtings says the monitor does 144hz and variable refresh rate over HDMI.
So it should be good, assuming the HDMI port on your laptop isn't weirdly limited.

    • Yeah man I would do it if I was looking for gaming

  • purchased, thanks OP

  • What’s the best way to screen cast to this from your phone? Chromecast?

    • +2

You can use a cable (eg. USB type c to hdmi), chromecast, or over wireless.

      Via cable is always best

I have this monitor and it doesn't do auto source switching, so every time i switch between the work laptop and the desktop I have to manually swap between hdmi and displayport on the monitor

    • Apart from that would you recommend for gaming? I'll ve running it through HDMI on my laptop rtx3060

    • +1

I've done a firmware update and now can enable auto switching in the menu

  • Great price for a nice monitor!
