Suggestions for Supermarket Spring Rolls (or Money Bags, Curry Puffs etc)

Any recommendations for frozen or chilled pre-made spring rolls? Whenever I’ve bought some I’m underwhelmed with the low filling amount and lack of flavour. And yes I know I could make my own, but just wondering if there’s some quick and easy options, ideally that go okay in the air fryer. Also open to suggestions for similar items like money bags or curry puffs. Being GC based woolies, Coles or Aldi are most convenient, but if you know of a brand found in Asian grocery stores that works too.

Thanks!

Full sized ones are always my go to, but Aldi used to have "Vietnamese" spring rolls that were pretty good. Haven't had them in ages but they're these ones - https://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/aldi-399-air-fryer-snack-shop…

Otherwise you'll likely find local shops that sell them that are far better. There's a couple of Vietnamese places in Melbourne that sell them through smaller grocery store chains or markets.

    • Thanks! Going for the bigger ones definitely makes sense.

  • Just don’t buy any made in chyna due to food contamination risk

    • I’d definitely prefer locally made, but I would think for cooked food the risk of contamination would be less, unless you mean heavy metals or that kind of thing. I think most spring rolls are made locally.

The Costco ones are the go-to for pre-made.

    • Thanks! Not a Costco member but I could possibly hit up a friend for a favour

      • Could be worthwhile joining the new one opening up?

        • Is it Coomera? I’m South GC and rarely go north of Broadbeach or Southport 😂

@morse: Ahh OK, yeah maybe a little far. We make a day of it though as all their stores are pretty far away, including the new Coomera one.

Marathon spring rolls. Not authentic whatsoever but there's just something about the mushy cabbage inside that gets me….

Haha - yep, completely understand, there’s something about Australian takes on other cultures foods that is comforting and familiar once you’ve had it a few times - nothing wrong with that.

As much as shop bought are easy and quick, there isn’t any that’s as satisfying as home made. I just spent 3.5 hours of my life today making 150 mini Vietnamese spring rolls that I will keep in the freezer.

Btw, all springs rolls can be put in the airfryer. Just spray them with some cooking/olive oil but nothing beats them fried.
