Looking for a cheap mobile phone for my 12 year old to use for emergencies.
Looking at under $40.
Also unlocked as i want to on put on a vodaphone $20 365 day recharge sim.
When that runs out he can pay for a new one himself.
Just a basic phone so he can ring/text us if he needs us.

Also,
If i Buy it do i need to also buy the $1 sim and just the $20 recharge?
Total $56 = $35 (phone) + $1 (Sim) + $20 (365 recharge)
Also, is there anywhere i can buy this one quickly as i need it for his birthday next week?
With a wishcard would be better (eg Woolies,DSE, Big W etc)Is this one similar/better ?
http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Pho…They look pretty much the same. Personally I'd go for the Officeworks one as it's unlocked and you may not want to be on the Vodafone network in the future.
tpg (optus) have a pay as you go plan which is good for low usage, $1/month, 10c + 10c/min calls to national/mobile, 50mb free data each month. sim costs $20 and initial $20 refundable deposit for call credits.
Can you put a cap or monthly maximum amount on those Pay As You Go plans?
Not that I am aware of.
no, tpg just bills your credit card another $20 when you run out of credit. so basically it is uncapped. still calls are much cheaper than vodaphone.
$1 a month in 10 cent texts would last about five seconds for some 12 year olds.
A couple of thousand texts later you're up for a $200 bill.
if your phone supported it, you could restrict the numbers he can call to only your mobile.
Try your local post office, as they've been clearing the Nokia C2-01 for $15. Yep, only $15 and it comes with a radio-controlled car! 3G handset, 850/2100 MHz, nice little phone, locked to Vodafone but mine was free to unlock online.
If your PO is out of stock, ask them nicely to locate stock nearby.

there are 2 phones under 'prepaid' that are sub $40.
they are both fit the basic requirements of ring/text
