Find me the best value ~50" LCD/Plasma TV!

Hey guys

basically about to pull the trigger on this

http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/samsung-ps51e550-series-5-51-i…

Good Guys could do $810 but not quite good enough. :) I understand I might have better luck getting JB to price match it.

In the meantime, can anyone point to a better value ~50" tele? I don't want anything smaller than 46". Not fussed about 3D or Smart TV features, but the Samsung has both, so I won't consider anything more expensive without those features to be better value.

Hit me, bargain hunters!

Be aware that the European community are talking about banning Plasma sales in Europe.

They run hot, use enormous amounts of expensive electricity [enough to make your eyes water].

Pioneer in japan have stopped making plasma screens.

Australia may become/has become a dumping ground for these screens.

LCD/LED will last longer than the plasma.

    • although plasma has a far better picture and colour contrast than lcd/led

  • grog: good point. the 50" samsung plasma i'm looking at has an energy rating of 640,000 kwh per year, while even the 46" TCL LED LCD on bigbrownbox for ~$670 has an energy rating of 220,000 kwh per year. thats quite a substantial difference. I thought plasmas had become more efficient over time…

…well can someone help me find a suitable 46-50" LCD then, hopefully for similar kinds of money :D

  • The Toshiba 46 TL933G now costs $853 delivered from Amazon.de and although more expensive than before is still a reasonably good deal in my opinion as it is 3D, LED, Full HD and is a brand, quality TV. I reckon TV like that cost $1100 or more in Australia (had a quick look on getprice.com.au).
The change of postage charging by Amazon has soured the deals a little bit but it is still a good deal IMO.
Here is the link to it:

Using the affiliate link would be greatly appreciated as it helps me to fund development of our research software to find you ever better deals but of course you do not have to. Using the affiliate link does not cost you anything, just Amazon.
