131

I saw the Amazon deal, and then bought It at Chemist Warehouse.

This is my first time using a safety razor and I can confirm its a very nice close shave.

I can confirm it works both up and down stairs.

Yes I know postage kills the deal. I used click and collect.

  • How much is it normally?

    • +2

more than you can afford pal

    • Google says anywhere between $30-35.

  • How long do the blades last? Compared to say fusion or mach3 style?

    • +2

I swap mine about once a week. Blades are 20c each vs cartidges at $2 each, so assuming you change cartridges every 2 weeks as recommended you would still come out ahead if you change blades every 2 days.

    • +2

So much less wastage too. I left the disposable shaver world a decade ago and its been cheaper, sharper and less waste

    • +2

      At least 6-10 shaves.

  • it works both up and down stairs.

    ?

Not an issue if you live in a 1 storey house

    • It works on your chin area and also on your downstairs area

        The garage?

        • Works great no matter where you’re standing when you go in

    • scrotum

  • Nah, Gillette's done it's damage.

    • Can you explain this?

      • -2

Might be about the ads Gillette made in 2019 that triggered many homophobic snowflakes

        • +2

Thanks - had a look at the ads from 2019 and can't imagine how anyone could genuinely have a problem with them.

        • +2

          People care too much

          Who is homer phobic?

I'll drink to that! (Drinks a Coors Light)

  • Holding out for a butterfly opening, coz if I have to disassemble the thing to change blades I’ll definitely drop a piece behind the toilet or something, and for an adjustable razor, because I can’t guess if I’d prefer a more aggressive or less aggressive shave

    • Not at this price right?

    • Butterfly have mechanism inside the handle. I don't like as crud will get inside.

Adjustable generally have a bulky head. It makes it hard to shave in some areas like under your nose.

  • I tried this.. wasn't as easy as the youtube guy made it out to be lol.. def need to practice..

Got this the other day from Amazon and I can't believe I held off for so long. Sharp close shave and easy to use.. I was worried about cutting myself but that seems like I'd have to totally stuff it up to cut myself

I got this from a recent deal. It takes some practice but it's really good. I recommend also getting a brush/bowl and shave soap - it doesn't play super nice with normal shave foam.

    • +3

Shaving soap is mandatory when you graduate to a real razor.

    • Cream onto brush is easier.

      • Yeah I initially tried the cream but it didn't work as well as the soap for me. That said my technique has gotten better so I might prefer the the cream now.

        • The issue with cream is it is very aerated and more sits on the hair and dries quickly.

Soap sits on the skin closer to the follicle root and has a density that keeps its moisture.

The key with the soap is to limit as much as possible the water you add and to lather with a brush into a thicker preparation. It's a phenomenal lubricant that a cream out of a can does not compare. An exposed razor edge will glide over with almost no perceptible pressure and leave a baby smooth finish.

You're trading time and effort for quality. But if you've ever treated yourself to a barber close shave with a straight, it's a lovely experience of self care.

          • @muwu: Agree it's about speed. With a cream (not from a can) if you are slower than a few minutes, it's time to add more water to the brush and reapply.

  • Do these open up with the butterfly mechanism or are they multi pieces and we sandwich the blades between the metal plates?

    • sandwich

    • 3 piece razor

Save your time, money, and face… go straight to Edwin Jagger. Nuff said.

    • +1

Agree - after doing the research, I got me an Edwin Jagger DE89 from Beard & Blade 5 years ago and it is still going strong!

Mine might be greater than 10 years. Impeccable. Got it for life.

I've been with the King C Gillette for 3 years now. Worth the upgrade? Is it just nicer in the hand? What's the benefit?
