Anywhere in Melbourne Where You Can Buy Chicken Breast for Less Then $10 a Kilo

Still remember the days not too long ago where you could buy a kilo for $6.

Any idea if prices like these still exist?

Thanks.

Just go to Sydney, where the streets are paved with chicken.

    • Why did that chicken cross the road ???????? 😲

      • To spill his juices all over the sidewalk…

    • If the OP is not a hostage to breeds of chicken there's even a choice in NSW. Maybe the franchise is available in Vic,now?

try going to supermarket near closing time

Perishable products are generally discounted during the day, not at closing time.

      • 6pm at our local Coles.

        • yeah its something like 6-8:30 pm from my experience at three major supermarkets

Maybe try Preston or Footscray markets.

      Springvale.

      • Not everyone wants to drive half way to Frankston, but yeah, I guess.

For many people, it might only be a 5 minute drive away.

    • I was getting $6KG chicken in 2022. So it wasn't that long ago.

        BOO !

  • Maybe Aldi? Given it’s $10/kg at Coles and Woolworths I’m guessing a bulk pack at Aldi would be less than $10/kg, pity they don’t advertise their prices on most groceries.

Tasman butchers had $8.99/kg last week (last time I was there), not sure if that's still a special. That's the lowest I've seen in a while. You could always switch to thigh for stir fry and such, much cheaper

Chicken thigh is the superior cut

    • How ?

  • Why just the breast as it dries out quicker and has less flavor
You know how drumsticks come from the same animal well
Woolies have had their drumsticks for $4/$4.50 a kilo lately if you take them off the bone it ends up between 700/800 grams of meat per kilo for only $4.50

      Depends how you cook it.

      • Can you still get skin on on those breasts? I doubt it
Crispy chicken skin left on those de boned drumsticks Delicious compared to those dry flavorless breasts.
Rack them above your veggies and the flavor of roast chicken even penetrates them did i mention Delicious?
Look past their colour and give it a try you might even like it

    • Damn. There goes supply and up goes price!

    • $4 kg in Coles till Tue.

Just buy a whole chook (for around the same price as 2 pieces of breast) and cut it up yourself.
