Dell 32 Gaming Monitor - G3223Q Dead on Arrival

Hi everyone, I recently purchased a Dell G3223Q from a previous OzBargain post as it checked all the boxes (4k, 140hz refresh rate, HDR 600). Unfortunately, the monitor came dead on arrival. I contacted Dell regarding getting a replacement and received the following response back:

Replacement of your original system:

Please note that your original unit, System Model Dell 32 Gaming Monitor - G3223Q, is now end of life and will be replaced by System Model Dell 32 Gaming Monitor - G3223D. Attached is Quotation Number 3000155341103 with the configuration of the replacement Monitor. Please review the quotation and check whether the details are correct or not. If the details are incorrect, please let us know via email.
Once built, we will arrange a courier to deliver the replacement Monitor to your shipping address (see your contact details below) first. We estimate it will take up to 21 working days to build the replacement system and deliver it to you. This is an estimate only - it may be a longer or shorter time depending on circumstances (e.g. if parts are not available, it may take longer). We will send you another email with the estimated time of delivery once the replacement Monitor ships out.
Dell will arrange a carrier to collect the original Monitor from your collection address (see your contact details and collection information below) once we confirm that the replacement is successfully delivered to you.
This is an outright exchange and the replacement system comes with the same Dell warranty (including the terms and conditions and expiry date) as your original Monitor. Please note that your Dell warranty rights are in addition to your statutory rights as a consumer under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

The G3223D seems to be inferior in almost every way as it is a lesser screen definition, HDR rating, HDMI 2.0 not 2.1.

I was wondering what your thoughts would be regarding the situation? Is there a suitable replacement that is physically like-for-like?

Thanks everyone!

If you specifically chose the 4K version, then I wouldn't accept the 2K replacement screen.

    Just get a refund.

Before you get a refund as the other commenter stated, you're absolutely sure it's DOA right?

Did you try swapping out the power cable?

I know it sounds silly, but did you press the power button on the bottom right (the button doubles as an LED). If I remember correctly, this monitor doesn't show any lights at all until you press the power button.

        Topkek.

Writes to Dell asking for a replacement for a doa monitor before even reading the manual.

  • If you don't want the replacement monitor ask for a refund instead as you would be entitled to.
They can't supply you a discontinued monitor they don't have after all.

  • Had the same issue with a G3223Q, seems to be a common problem. Managed to get a direct replacement though.

Definitely get a refund as the G3223D is inferior on specs and price.

  • I got one of these monitors and the dp cable that came with it didn't work.

    • scratch that. I just got it working.

      • I had it working with hdmi at first.

  • confidence lost in dell

    • Might be a fair call anyway, but check OP's response to the second comment.

  • I’m sure they are planning another 32” 4K 165Hz gaming monitor as a proper replacement later in the year.

  • If they send you one but you get to keep your working one - top kek.

  • @purelysam sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with your Dell G3223D monitor. That's really frustrating, especially when you're expecting a new product to work perfectly.

I had the exact opposite experience. I ordered a Dell G3223D monitor and it turned out to be faulty. I contacted Dell and they were out of stock of the G3223D, but they offered to replace it with any other monitor in their lineup. I chose the Dell G3223Q, and I just received my monitor. I'm really happy with my purchase, and I'm surprised that they would offer to replace your 4K monitor with a 2K monitor.
