Not too shabby at all.. many of these have 60hz

      • Does that make a visible difference?

        • +2

For gaming it does, dragging items and windows across will look smoother as well.

      • 144hz has been the ozbargain standard for some time now

  • I have this monitor. Excellent for when you work from home and also do a bit of gaming.

    • I've been thinking about an ultrawide for a while now, is this considered a good price for a USB-C 34" unit?

      • Been tracking these prices. This is pretty good for a Dell. There are some cheaper ones by no name brands but reviews are poor. You may however pick up a bargain at around the $500 mark. I went with a dell refurb at $350ish

        • @Kanjus did you pickup the same model from Dell as refurb? Any idea how often the refurbs are advertised on dell?

          • @foogle: No, i got the 3415W. Manufactured mid 2018
Much older but excellent image. Was top of the range then.

      • The monitor is really good. But i remember getting this for around $550

        • Just waiting for something with a bit more resolution and possibly 100hz IPS

  • +7

    VA panel

    • +2

Can you explain why that is an issue?

      • VA < IPS.

IPS has better colours, is also generally faster (despite listed response times, you often get ghosting or smearing with VA). Worth noting VA has better contrast/black levels generally, however.

For the purpose of this monitor, it won't make a huge difference if you game very casually/rarely and mostly use it for work (hence the Type C PD port).

I've used IPS since like ~2010 and probably won't go back to anything but with the exception of OLED/QD-OLED etc technologies as they mature.

      • -1

VA is worse for gaming due to response time but can be way better for a lot of other stuff. It all depends on QC, IPS has huge QC issues like ips glow which can be insane if you like dark mode for tons of apps/webs, especially on larger form factor it's a lot more present.

This is only a 100hz monitor so not even really for gaming anyway. 100hz VA is a bad time for gaming.

      • +1

I had a Samsung VA monitor and hated it. There was flickering when there was some grey patterns.

      • -6

Both VA and IPS panels have advantages/disadvantages. However, curved monitors come with VA panels only. And for big screens, the curvature is actually quite an advantage, in my opinion. I personally would buy a monitor 32" and bigger only with a curved screen.

        • I thought I saw dell with a wide screen 34 IPS. 3800R so sure less curved but still curved?

          • -4

@Chillgoon: I guess you mean 1800? Yes, less curved but still curved. Just checked and it looks like LG and Dell are having IPS curved screens.

            • +8

              @Anastassiya:

However, curved monitors come with VA panels only.

WHAT?????????? Not correct, there are tonnes of curved IPS panels, such as the one I am looking at now.

              I guess you mean 1800?

Mate, you seem to be best if you just say nothing, as what you're saying here is just outright wrong, and you're looking foolish. Dell do have 34" IPS with a 3800R curve. Again, just like the one I am using right now.

What scares is is that you work in the industry and are presumably advising people on their purchases. I hope you don't give out this much wrong information to all of your consumer interactions.

              • +7

@snuke: Now, no jokes here, I am totally ashamed. I couldn't even defend myself by saying that curved IPS panels had just arrived on the market. I googled it and found out that they have been available for a while, most probably since 2015. Anyway, I am definitely ashamed of my stupid comment. Well, something new to learn.

        • +4

Nonsense, there are plenty of curved IPS panels.

      • yes it is targeted.

If you're wanting to save a bit more and go refurbished, this pops up from time to time on the Dell outlet - snagged one earlier this year for ~$470 and looked like a change of mind return, the unit was immaculate and had no issues, came with all cables and in original box(though wasn't packed back in the original position but had plenty of cushioning and protection so wasn't an issue for transport damage).

  • Does this do Power Delivery? If so, at what rate?

    • +6

Yes, click on the link and read the specs.

    • I used with a 2018 MacBook Pro 15 inch and it charges

  • +4

Has built in KVM too which is great.

    • Was gonna say that might just edge me into buy it, but forever I already ordered a stand alone KVM that is taking forever to arrive.

  • Does anyone know how this compares to the Xiaomi 34" apart from all the extra ports and USB-C connectivity? More specifically about the display itself in real life use.
I find the Xiaomi 34" tends to give me a bit of eye strain. It can look a bit blurry and dark / washed out and also a lot of glare even with the light source not directly seen in reflections.

    • +1

I believe you can return to Dell if you are not happy with it.

  • +3

I also get confused on this versus the Dell 34 Curved USB-C Monitor – P3421W. That one has 60hz but is IPS. Is that where the extra cost is, the fact it's IPS, and seems to produce alot more colours? Both have built in KVM.
Apologies as not a monitor expert. Basically want to be able to have both PC and work laptop off the one and use for some casual gaming, mainly D4.

  • +1

Does something like this exist with a display port output for Daisy chaining another monitor off it?
Or would this @100Hz already be using up too much of the type-c bandwidth to leave enough for another monitor

  • Might be a half decent consolation prize for all the people who got DOA G3223Q although VA Panel, 100Hz and 1440p are downsides

    • DOA? Dead of arrival?

      • Yep some arrived dead

Can someone recommend an IPS equivalent around $700 if possible?

  • +1

I've been running this monitor for a year for both WFH and gaming purposes. Love it.

    AMA.

    • Do you have any gripes at all with it?

      • +1

It could use an extra USB port or two, but that's easily solved by connecting a USB hub. I don't recommend using any high bandwidth USB devices if you're trying to run 3440x1440 100hz over USB-C. Even so - you can still configure the monitor to prioritize high resolution or high USB bandwidth.

The monitor takes 4 minutes to fully power-off (in the meantime it stays on with a countdown timer.) Honestly, I haven't dived into the menu deep enough to see if I can change this as I habitually turn it off at the button.

    • +1

I use a 32 in IPS monitor for my work and on most days I use the monitor for 10+ hrs a day. Earlier I used to have a VA panel monitor and since switching over to IPS about one year ago I feel that it has reduced the stress on my eyes and reduced headaches. This might be just my perception but would prefer to continue with an IPS monitor.

      • Glad to hear that about eye strain having just purchased an IPS for work (after close VA consideration)

        • Which IPS monitor did you purchase?

          • @adastur: https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-27-qhd-monitor-se2723ds…

This was the cheapest 27" 1440p with an adjustable height stand that I could find. Were some cheaper VA options but didn't go with as they didn't have adjustable stand.

            • @bleeder: Thanks for the response, I am looking for 34" ultrawide and can't seem to find many options. The cheapest I could find was Acer at around $670 and LG at around $690 both being only 60Hz…. Higher refresh rate ones jump straight to around $1000. I am looking at buying 2 of them together for my trading setup so it's quite a big decision and I will need a monitor arm as well to hold both the ultrawides stacked vertically.

              • @adastur: 2 x 34" is crazy, vertical or side by side or ???

                • @bleeder: 2X34 vertically stacked in landscape orientation with a 32 inch philips 4K ips monitor in portrait next to them, that is the plan currently. I actually went and saw some monitors today just to get a feel of the size and I was amazed at how comfortable the viewing angle on a 49 inch ultrawide was but unfortunately it lacks the height I need for the total number of tabs I need and also placing my 32 inch monitor with it does not seem to work in any orientation.

                  • @adastur: Sounds awesome, you could also look at 42", will have a bit less height than 2 x 34" stacked but more width. The 2 x 34" would match up pretty nicely with the 32" in portrait though.

There was previous discussion on this model for those interested: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/704425

    • Thanks for that. almost pull the trigger.

      • What changed your mind?

  • using this more than a year now for work and casual gaming and it is grate. KVM switch is grate if you connect two pcs/laptops and switching between those flawless. got avarage sounds with inbuild speakers. may cause some trouble viewing if you use next to window or brightlight.

Having this monitor for a couple of years now and it's great.

I'm after a bigger monitor ATM as I need to open 3 decent size windows for my work, and the 34" isn't wide enough. But it's way more expensive for Dell 38" or 40" monitors.

Tempted to get a 2nd one for my other home office setup.

    • the 34" isn't wide enough. But it's way more expensive for Dell 38"

38" is not any wider than 34", it's just taller, 1600 vs 1440 pixels.
I use a 34" at work, and I went the extra for a 38" at home.

        3840x1600 vs 3440x1440

        • +2

Yeah you're right, not sure what the hell I was thinking there. Especially considering I have both looked up and typed both sizes specs multiple times recently.

Oddly enough even though it's 400 pixels wider and only 160 pixels taller, I notice the extra height more than width.

  • I got the Dell S3422DWG for $250 off gumtree.

  • +1

How does this monitor rate compared to the S3422DWG for $591.80? It does not have USB-C in but seems to be better in most other aspects? I do a little gaming but mostly music/photo/video editing, currently using a Dell S2722QC which is IPS with USB-C, next to a 27-inch 2021 iMac, but would love a wider display for workflow. Would this be a downgrade?

Anyone returned their monitor vis the love it ot return it within 15 days? FAQs are confusing - will I get charged restocking fee plus postage or not? One clause says I will be charged while another says no.

  • Does this do side by side display from different inputs?

    • +1

You are referring to Picture-by-Picture (PBP), and yes it does.

  • OP what is the original price on this? Tempted to pull the trigger but short on cash.

    • It is normally $670 ish

      • Is this a newer version of Dell S3422DW? Was a good price in 2021 of $439 ;) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/635054

        • That's how it looks, although it's odd to have a new version just one year apart. It looks the same but with USB-C and USB 3.2 hub.

  • Thoughts on Dell P3421W please.

    • Comparing specs, looks like an IPS version of S3423DWC with a more subtle curve (3800R compared to 1800R). Has lower refresh rate and contrast, higher color support. This would be because its IPS and not VA.
The price is also more, thanks to it being IPS not VA. To me it looks more of a choice between a VA or IPS version of the same monitor, I am not a monitor expert so others can chime in and correct/update what I have said ;)

      • Thansk foggle. THere are some deals on LG IPS panels aswell, but for some reason (warranty/support) ozbargainers are all over Dell's.
Also, just confirming 3800R curve is better than 1800R?

  • Got this one instead - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/781384# -
not many reviews but specs look good for what I do which is mainly photo/video editing. Not ultrawide I know - but will probably suit my setup better. Good value - still selling on Samsung site for $999.

  • Anyone still waiting for theirs? Why does it take so long!?
