Has Anyone Try These Smart Wall Sockets?

Hi,

I'm looking at these smart sockets on AliExpress, for example.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004918131171.html

And might order dozens of them to replace the traditional sockets in my house. Wonder if anyone did this before and has any recommendation or anticipate any problems in the future ?

I'm also aware that Bunnings has Delta smart wall sockets however one of the comments stating that they don't have energy consumption monitor which is what I want the most.

Update 1: Since comment does not allow link, hows about this one which list the certificate (from SAA) https://a.aliexpress.com/_mK2YlEy

Update 2: Although it's not in DETA website nor Bunnings, after a quick trip to Bunnings I learnt that they have a product which has power meter (~80$) called Double PowerPoint With USB and Energy Meter. I will get this one instead. Thanks for everyone's inputs

any problems in the future ?

If the certificates aren't real (and it's ali express), they are technically not allowed to be used in Australia. If your house burns down to an electrical fire, you may find your insurance is void.

Edit, looked in detail: there's no certification on these devices.

    • Hi I just updated the post to list one seller which has the certificate. Guess I call SAA to see if it's real or not

      • The model you posted is ZGS001. Looking at the (poorly) scanned/pictures of the certificates, that model doesn't show on it. I will not use AliExpress for my in built electricals.

As others have mentioned. Use at your own risk.

getting an electrician to install them might be a challenge.
Any future electrical issues and the lack of compliance certification could also be a problem

    • See my updated post, one seller has the cer. Assume it's real (I will check), I guess sparkies won't have problem installing them ?

depends if electrician wants the liability/issues/hassle of potentially dodgy certification imported electrical items.

SAA certificate doesnt necessarily mean much

  • you would be better off with just the plug-in smart switches for ~$10 each?

    • It's a bit ugly imho 😅

      • Smart Switches, I get it. But why do you need to upgrade all double sockets to smart? How do you control a Kettle, Toaster. fan, Tv, etc, etc, etc. or anything with it's own built-in mechanical or electronic switching? If you really want them just go for touch only double GPOs from the same design and maybe one or two smart t(i.e. hard to reach places, behind TV, etc) for applications that makes sense and go crazy with smart light switches but from AliExpress? FK NO! Also if you plan to add that many wifi devices, your router will also need an upgrade as some cheap wifi routers (specially freebie ones from ISPs) have wifi client limits.

      • If you are seeking advice and then you reject it for aesthetics, then just buy the junk. I'm already smelling the rancid melting plastic just thinking about it.

might be a good idea to look for something with AS/NZS standards certification such as AS/NZS 3112. Although there's no way of knowing if it is real or not on Aliexpress.

  • "or anticipate any problems in the future ?" I consulted my Acme crystal ball .

The plastic they are made of it's likely to be crap, that is likely to fade, crumble, crack, discolour, honeycomb etc.The moving parts are likely to have a short life and be random in reliability. Apart from that use the basic senses you were born with to decide.

Does it 'seem' to good to be true'?
    Do your REALLY need it?
What do legit Australian reviews say?

. Will you gain physical exercise by NOT getting them?
Will it require more brain work (exercise to beat off future dementia) to live without them?

Could the money be better spent? Or better saved?

    You're welcome.

    • I think it's well-worth the money. For example, I can set my portable heater to turn off at 2am.

      • Or buy a heater with a timer switch. Or buy a timer switch.

They can't even get the pictures the right way up. The box on the back won't fit into a lot of wall boxes if you're replacing existing power points.

    • they're chinese plugs, so the pictures are correct and the earth pin is on the top. possibly they could be installed upside down. however, i have a feeling the box is going to interfere with plaster c-clips

  • Aloexpress plus installed 240v gear don’t sit well with me. I’d rather pay more and buy quality locally for warranty purposes. I’d imagine they’d be hard to setup and unreliable.

At least with the plug in smart thing you can easily pull it out and replace it when fails.

But then, I don’t see the benefit of adding complexity to a mechanical switch either.

    • You can, for example, enforce screen time/bedtime for kids and set it on a schedule 😁. You can't do that with a plug

      • Well, you could get off your ass and tell them it’s bedtime. Or give them enforces consequences for not turning off the device whe requested.

      • How's that going to stop them playing on a device with a battery?
