For running relatively short distances, e.g. 10km, a few times a week, is the Gel Nimbus a good option? I don't know how the Kayano differs, but suspect it's better for daily and serious/long running.

OMG, I love these shoes. I have a blue pair of the same thing, took them to Great Ocean Walk to hike (didn't know it was as treacherous as it was) it took: mud, sea water, more mud, rain, sand…pretty much the worst a pair of runners could be exposed to. And when I got back they were still intact, although a little smelly…=) And the heel was a bit more worn than before the hike. Ahahaha.

I have the nimbus 12 and 13. I prefer the 12's TBH but both are good shoes. Very soft cushioning which suits a high arch foot.
was looking for Nimbus couple of weeks ago, not available, bought kayano 18 instead.
