Thanks, got the 15 sleeve from amazon

The briefcase was $10 for me (don't know why but a $1 discount was applied at checkout)

    • +5

      Same for me.

I went through Qantas Shopping as the cashback sites are 0% for Dell accessories.

    • +2

Same with the 15” essential backpack, $15.50 at checkout

      • +1

        Same here

    • Same

Will fit my new Apple Macbook Air 15 quite nicely, hopefully the pocket is big enough for the Vision Pro scuba goggles and dongles.

    • Briefcase or sleeve?

  • +6

The zip on the backpack is behind the shoulder straps, super inconvenient. I sold my on marketplace after 1 use.

    • Yeah I don't know why the did that. Still a good bag for the price.

      • +12

For security reason I believe? Some zippers tend to break open by itself after a few years of intensive use. With this concealed zip design, the person will not longer need to worry about his laptop falling out because the opening is securely attached to his back.

        • +2

Backpacks for motorcycles are like this too. There's no chance of losing anything from the main bag compartment as long as you're wearing it.

    • +6

I've had the bag for 12 months now. I strangely like the zip on the back. Easy to use, just flip the arm straps out of the way.

      • +5

Same here. Added security measure when carrying around expensive Macbook

    • Also the joints holding the straps would give way pretty soon considering that the straps need to be moved aside EVERYTIME the bag needs to be opened

      • +7

I've had it for a year and haven't treated it with much care (given it was about $13 when I bought). Everything is still good as new

    • thanks for posting ! this is actually a plus for me - didn't know

  • +3

Got another backpack, can’t have too many.

  • +1

Thank you, got one for mom, she has a Dell laptop.

  • +2

I just paid $10 for the dell briefcase 15 from dell website. $1 less than op post, bargain.

  • +1

    @Briefcase Mong

  • Anyone used the backpack with 16inch MacBook Pro?

    • +1

I just got one for my 16-inch Macbook but I'm taking a gamble. In questions, the dimensions are:

"This bag is made of water-resistant outer material, it fits most laptops with screen sizes up to 15.6" (Max laptop dimension: 380mm x 260mm x 25mm), and the dimension of the backpack is 310mm x 140mm x 430mm (WxDxH)."

    • Just got my Essential Backpack 15 and fits the MacBook Pro 16" fits perfectly. The zipper design is strange though as it's behind the straps, didn't expect that. Should've looked at the pics carefully. But can't complain for the price!

  • +6

I purchased this back-back earlier. But is is very small and I looks like a tortoise when Im wearing it. If you are around 6 feet or higher reconsider before buying. Just my 2 cents. 🐢🐢🐢

    • +3

Haha that's funny, my wife got one from work but she doesn't wear it anymore so now I get to use this back- back (I'm 6.1 feet). It is a bit small and now that you mention it I feel like a tortoise. 🐢🐢

      • 😂😬

        • Definitely not like a tortoise 🐢🐢🐢 .. or do I? Well, I got three of them from last deal (two for two different purposes + one standby) so I dont have to rearrange stuffs daily. 6 feet and damn I feel like a tortoise now :)

    • These sleeves/backpack also fit non-dell laptop.

  • +1

Sometimes I wonder why would people buy the laptop sleeve, as it does not come with the space to put in accessories like mouse and charger… but, I guess everyone is unique and has their own needs?

    • +4

I just bought the 15" sleeve because I lug my work laptop between the office and home. I travel on a motorcycle using the dell essentials backup but it's not particularly water resistant. I did get caught out once by a random shower, so having a neoprene sleeve will add an extra layer of protection.

I also use a dock in the office and the supplied power supply at home so I only need to pack the laptop. Some of the comments say the sleeve is big enough to pack the power brick and a mouse anyway?

      • +2

This, we do 2 days at the office, 3 at home, so I have a dock and desk setup at each and have no reason to cart anything besides the MacBook around. I'd say it's a pretty common thing these days.

        • Thank you for your responses; that make sense now!

          It's all perspective, right?!

      • +1

Fold up a plastic bag and stuff it in the pocket of your backpack. If it looks like rain then wrap your laptop in the plastic bag before putting it in the backpack. I've been riding a motorcycle for close to 20 years now and never had a problem with electronics in my bag getting wet.

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

  • +2

Backpack checked out as $15.50 :) Thanks!

  • Anyone know if the 13 inch sleeve can fit a 14 inch macbook pro.. (Sorry i know it seems like a dumb question :( )

    • +1

The specs listed on the page state that it will fit a laptop with maximum dimensions of 325mm x 215mm x 20mm.

Find the dimensions for your MacBook and you should be able to work out if it will fit or not.

  • Anyone able to give any feedback on the 15inch backpack? In particular whether it fits much other stuff besides the laptop. I'm thinking delicious food stuff to get me through the office days, container or large book etc.

    • All good. Bit the bullet. Unfortunately I'll have to just eat out when I'm in the office instead of bringing the whole kitchen. Damn.

      • +2

It's bigger than it looks. Can fit a laptop, takeaway containers and a jumper with ease in the main compartment. The front pocket can hold a fair bit too. It's not a rucksack, but the use case is for light travel. The only thing is the drink pocket can only hold slim water bottles.

        • Awesome!, Well that works for me. I like the option of more walking when I feel like it. Single sided options like satchels do nothing for my back and posture. Should be big enough but if not, I'll still make do. Peace.

    • +1

This Dell Essential backpack is designed for light duty only. Linning inside are not very durable. In my opinion, there is just not enough padding on the bottom of the bag to protect the laptop from being damaged. $16.50 at this quality is not bad but defintely not worth it at RRP.

  • +1

Holding off for the Gaming Backpack 🤞🏻

  • No brainer for daily use. Can't vouch for water resistance. Just okay for occasional drizzle. Highly recommended at this price level.

    Sleeves and Backpack Sold Out.

    • Back in stock!

  • +1

Thanks OP. Bought the Essentials Backpack last time. Still using it. I know it's different how the straps are but easy enough to flip them out the way when needed. Bought the Essentials Briefcase this time👍

  • Anyone got tracking number yet ? My order's showing shipped on 10th but can't find any tracking number and no email advising shipping details. Which carrier do they send through?

    • +1

Pretty sure all of my Dell orders have come via StarTrack.

No tracking number for me yet as only ordered the Sleeve 15 this arvo, per status page estimated shipping date is Jun 14 and estimated arrival Jun 20.

      • +1

Thanks. My email with order number link directs to the order page that states it's arriving soon but no tracking number to track it through Australia Post app. StarTrack previously delivered within a day to metro areas. Hopefully arrives tomorrow.

        • Any luck with yours? Mine is now showing the same as you described, shipped and arriving soon. With previous Dell orders I've always received a shipping notice with tracking.

          • +1

@itscyanide: I got a SMS today saying it had been shipped and was arriving tomorrow.

          • @itscyanide: Not yet. Instead got an SMS today advising that it has been shipped and will arrive on Friday. Still no tracking number.

            • @SuperLate: I got an email later in the night with a link to the order, that had a link to the tracking. Which didn't work last night. But this morning it says the status is ready to pick up and the ETA is tomorrow lol.

Looks like Sleeve 15 and Backpack are back in stock.

    • +1

      Thanks for the heads up.

      I have updated the OP.

  • The backpack drink bottle holder is too tight.

  • +2

Just got the briefcase, probably stating the obvious but you get what you pay for. It's okay but the padding is very minimal, nothing special, it's $10 don't expect more than that!

  • The backpack is garbage.

I noticed the other comments saying that it's a bit awkward because the laptop compartment zip is behind the shoulder straps, but thought this was okay for a compartment that isn't accessed frequently (take laptop to work and take it out once, return it once).

But… it is both the laptop compartment AND the main carrying compartment. Basically you need to access the zip all the time, and to do so you need to flip both shoulder straps around to the front.

There's a small front pocket zip, but it's not big enough for much beyond a phone and wallet.

    • The backpack is garbage.

      Negatory.

      I have this backpack.

It cops around 10kg worth of shopping per hit without complaint.

It's fine and the arrangement of straps is just dandy.

      • What are you shopping for- lead bricks, or just pouring milk into it from cartons? Because it's tiny. No idea how you can get 10kg of normal groceries into it.

The quality of materials is higher than expected for a $10 backpack, but I will stand by the statement that the design is terrible.

This was going to be my kid's school bag for when he starts carrying a laptop. It's so constrained in function (quick access to main compartment) that it'll probably get tossed into the nearest donations bin- maybe someone else will find it usable.

        • 3L milk + 2 x 1.25L bottles (though I have a strong memory that I once got 3 in there).

Add to that cans, jars and other misc bits.

The bag is still in one piece and doesn't appear to be used.

          • @the discombobulated panda: I'm impressed that all fit.

Just had another look at the pack… it won't work as a kid's laptop bag even if the design was okay for frequent access.

The sleeve section means that every time you put the bag down, the laptop bumps against the floor. So for a kid, eventually one corner will smash.

My other laptop packs are designed so that the laptop is held off the floor.

I guess it was too much to hope for from a $10 or $15 bag. It's going into a charity bin. I really have to learn to stop jumping onto cheap OzBargain deals!

Sadly the backpack isn’t on Amazon, have ordered via Dell.

I noticed an office worker heading into the Sydney CBD on the bus, carrying his corporate issued Dell laptop, with no case/backpack, just raw dogging it. A true corporate legend.

  • StarTrack are a PITA. I would have paid more for normal Australia Post.

    • I wouldn't have paid more, like has been mentioned, the briefcase is only worth about $10, but I got a call on Friday from StarTrack saying they were here (and Aus Post app was showing it was onboard for delivery), so I went downstairs. Waited for a bit while the driver rummaged around in the back of the van only for him to say sorry, I can't find the package, it's saying it's onboard so maybe another driver will deliver it shortly.

They delivered it on Monday lol. So yay StarTrack!

  • +1

It should be noted that Dell appear to be giving a discount of $1 PER ORDER so if ordering multiple things you get them even cheaper if you order them one at a time.

Thus the backpack becomes $15.50 and the sleeve $10. :)

For anyone who's interested, the 13in sleeve is now also back in stock (Ping @1bug)
