Of Course IMAX in Darling harbour is not ready yet, which alternative i have to watch in the best possible mode, Hoyts or Event? and which cinema has the best screen at the moment?
Thanks

Not sure about Sydney but at least in Melbourne it's Hoyts > Village/Event. Xtremescreen with the motorised recliners is where it's at .

    • There are Event Cinemas in Sydney that have recliners (and even day beds).

I'm usually an Xtremescreen man just due to proximity (there's no Event in Canberra). But I was on my way back to CBR and saw A Quiet Place 2 in VMAX at Event Ed Square and was very impressed.
Absolutely brand new theatre, massive screen, very high quality digital projection and Dolby Atmos sound, as well as the now obligatory motorised recliners.

    • "as well as the now obligatory motorised recliners."

      Hope there's no fallout.

Ed Square is very nice in general, OP can also get a bite before the movie.

  • I don't understand the hype of watching Oppenheimer in IMAX, the movie is about atomic bomb right? So what will be high quality screens about that we need to watch it in IMAX? the chemical reaction of the atomic bomb?

It's not like this is a LOTR movie or Avatars

    • , the movie is about atomic bomb right

thanks for that.. I'd never heard of it. certainly aint rushin out to see it either.

The movie was filmed on a combination of IMAX 65mm and Panavision 65mm, which is then projected in IMAX 70mm. Best to watch in IMAX theatre because of the biggest screen.
Translation for those who aren't well-versed in film: It makes for a cinematic experience that's fully immersive.
Is different movie from LOTR or Avatar, is more for different audience

Oh it was filmed on 65MM film? Nice, will have to check it out.

Yeah I get that, but it's just the hype that I don't get. Hopefully it'll make some profits

Part of it is just 'seeing it as the director intended', combined with hype for Nolan films in general.
He's had some hits and misses but he's one of the very few film makers left that are making big budget original content. Everything else is just sequels of sequels or prequels or remakes and some twist on Superheroes…

I recently rewatched Batman Begins on Bluray and my aim to watch all Nolan’s films has been completely reinvigorated. He’s a great.

  • I saw the movie in Vmax.
This is a biopic drama. 90% of the film is set indoors. Absolutely no reason to see this on the big screen.
I feel this movie is much better suited as a TV drama, and there simply isn't any visuals worth paying for.
While the movie is well made and engaging, it's not on the same level as Nolan's other films.
If I knew what I know now, I would wait for it to be on streaming.

And I can't believe this film cost $100 mil to make. Feels like most of it went to the cast.
