What Is This Object Affixed to The Ceiling?

Hi all,

This could very well be a silly question. Tease me if you wish!

My friend has lived in her house for over 5 years and does not know the purpose of this item affixed to her ceiling.
I have no idea either. Curious if the brainstrust here can solve the mystery!

The object is attached to the ceiling near bedrooms and a bathroom.

It's an alarm sounder unit likely linked to that motion sensor system (basically emergency speaker).

Infrared sensor (RHS) and screamer. Both for the alarm system.

Had one go off while I was standing below it.

Trust me, I could not hear anything for 15 mins after that. It was crazy loud and piercing.
