agree for today but hmmm just a week ago… this was… very cheap

    • I haven't seen anything cheaper than this one. The HG the other day was pretty cheap but this is honestly the cheapest I've seen so far.

    • +4

This is the 1/100 Full Mechanics (larger scale than the 1/144 HG). I've heard the Full Mechanics are getting better, not sure how it compares to the MG counterpart nowadays.

      • +2

yeah that was 1/144 this is 1/100
        sorry

  • Is this basically a master grade kit?

    • +2

"Basically" in terms of size. Frame and build isn't as intricate as a Master Grade, but I've heard this kit is one of the best Full Mechanic kits so far (worth checking out reviews).

      • I am sure it won't be as good as MG but for the people who just want the appearance I think this is good enough.

    • Bandai doesn't make that many MG kits anymore.
This is the closest to MG so far.
It has a lot of positive reviews.
I guess people don't have time for building models.

    • +1

Nope. It's basically the opposite of an rg kit. Ie, a slightly more complex hg at 1/100 size.

  • Wasn't this like $16 like 2 weeks ago or is that just a mini version of this

    • That was the HG 1/144.
Not as good as this one.

  • +1

Built this on release day in Japan, its a really great kit.

    • +1

I am looking forward to get my kit too!

  • They seems like they've caught on and are gradually increasing the price on most things :/

    • Really? How come I start seeing the down trend gradually.
Same with cars, SSD, rams and lots of things.
Finally the days of paying for the premium is almost over.

    • They've definitely caught on. Gundam was niche even like 12 months ago and now you can find kits in pop culture stores.

Pricing is still tricky because supply is so cooked. Nobody ever knows when a shipment is going to arrive (to the major suppliers anyway) so you can price for the plausibility of scarcity even if another boatload randomly rocks up three weeks later and suddenly there's a glut of the most popular kits.

      • Niche only to the sense you cant get it easily here, but not to hobby enthusiasts.

        • I mean niche in terms of availability, yes. But, there's now Gundam in the window of Critical Hit (and other Japanese culture stores) in Melbourne CBD where once you'd have to go to Metro, Hearns, Gundam's Plus - which are places that hobbyists already knew to go. It's never been more 'mainstream' I guess from the perspective that someone could 'come across' the hobby on accident.

  • How does one see Amazon JP. mine just shows the Amazon US at $146.28

    • Apparently you have to use the app or something.
What I did was refresh the page a couple of times and it came up through the buying options.
Some people says you could change the browser or use incognito mode.

      • +1

thanks, refreshing 4 times and i got one. I think the wife will love making this.

        • I refreshed 4 times and it did come up, but when I try to buy it, it just says Sorry there was a problem. But going through incognito first, adding to cart, then logging in, it did work!
edit: I spoke too soon, 5 minutes later, I got an Order Cancellation email from Amazon JP

      • It's weird opposite for me; app not showing for me but desktop website did.

    • +2

You just have to check the "other sellers" section and click amazon jp

  • can someone explain what is full mechanics mean? or what all the grades mean? last i was in japan, saw some really clean models which costed in the thousands.. looked really cool though.

    • Its like having a MG appearance with a less detailed frame.

    • +7

      Easy.

      Standard grades
Hg - 1/44 scale, simple complexity, no inner frame, cheap, most types
Mg - 1/100 scale, complex, has inner frame, generally only released every few years
Rg - 1/144 scale, complex, has inner frame, generally excellent colours, mostly just the protagonist suits are available
Pg - huge, complex, and expensive

      Weirder grades
Ng - no grade, generally older kits which aren't good enough to be called hg
Full mechanics - 1/100, simple, quite rare, newer

There's also of course variation in between grades. Eg aeriel hg has a partial inner frame, as does the hg moon gundam. Aeriel also uses a lot of techniques that have been transferred over from rg kits - eg the parts are attached to the sprue in clever positions so that when you make the kit you don't get the marks from where you cut them off in obvious positions. The hg aeriel also has amazing level of part seperation - eg almost all the parts are in the right colours without needing any paint or stickers, which isn't typical for just hg.

Personally I like hg and rg. Rg has in many cases made mg obsolete and is simpler in some ways and more complex in others.

      • +1 for RG by far my favourite grade of gunpla but due to the sheer amount of tiny pieces and stickers I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. Also the selection is a lot more limited compared to the other grades. I wish they did more antagonist and grunt kits in RG though.

No grade, High Grade, SD or this deal would be better for beginners but some will need a bit more work to make them really look great.

        • With love, saying that RG or MG aren't recommendable for beginners is a bit gatekeepery. Almost any Gunpla is objectively simpler to build than anything that requires glue and paint, and I genuinely believe that in most cases the care taken to get the instructions and engineering right at RG and MG (that sometimes isn't bothered with at HG) outshines any perception of higher difficulty.

Sure, there are some wacky kits that are outliers (and some kits that are badly out of date), but negotiating tweezers and nippers (for a reasonably satisfying outcome) is probably a lot easier than building an Airfix to the same level of ultimate satisfaction.

          • @IPYF: Fair point. My intention was not to gatekeep or anything just letting people know what to expect. If you pick up an RG as your first kit you are going to need a lot of patience with clipping and trimming lots of tiny parts and applying 50+ little stickers with tweezers. The result is definitely super rewarding but just don't expect it to be a quick build like an HG.

Not to water down the quality of a HG either they have come a long way since the early days. I'd even go as far to say the modern HG are better than the old school MG, the whole inner frame thing was forgettable IMO.

            • +1

@turnip: Nah I know you didn't intend that but I do think it's a common 'reaction' from people new to the hobby to get daunted when hearing that RG and MG are 'hard', when I do think that it's relative.

Personally I agree with you and think the biggest determinant of difficulty is actually the age of the kit. Frustration levels increase as you go back in time. I just finished Gouf Custom which despite being an MG is a miserable kit experience in pretty much every way because it's an over 20 year design with no revisions.

My advice for beginners would probably be grade agnostic and just be to get a newer kit, and check reviews for any pain points.

      • +1

I remember the PG Wing Zero Custom that I convinced by parents to get me for finishing high school. Took me weeks to build, and god that was fun.

  • +1

How is everyone able to search on Amazon JP? Do you guys just search for stuff you want on AU and go through 'Other Sellers'?

When I search on JP site all of the items have shipping cost.

    • +2

Thats what I've been doing - just everything I look at check the other sellers. Made a killer saving on all the Gundam last week, Hario stuff, Shapton stones.

      Thanks Japan - Arigatou gozaimasu

    • +5

Choose theme you are looking for eg gundam. Select international shipping then choose Bandai as brand, go back to “prime delivery” it will allow you to choose seller, choose Amazon jp. All gundam sold by Amazon jp will come up

    • Nah, you still need to set the country to AU but buying through "New from" under the price offered.

    • +4

      https://www.amazon.com.au/s?me=A2K69GP4EI3XWZ&marketplaceID=…
You can search the Amazon JP storefront on the AU site with this link. It's not an exact mirror to the JP site though.

To be able to get the JP price available to add to cart, you've just gotta refresh a few times. It'll either take 1 go or maybe 20. On PC, I usually just open a new tab or a new window a number of times, it will always eventually work in my experience.

  • +1

Pteras Bomber was $51.27 last week. Takes a bit of effort to bring up the Amazon JP listing have to load the page like 10+ times on occasions.

  • So shouldn't this have free delivery for non-prime users as well because it's above $49 anyway?

    • We all wish that happens but no it doesn't for international shipping.

  • -7

Willing to trade my 1/144 model of this BNIB if you buy me this :)

    • +5

You want to trade your $16 kit for someone else’s $58 kit?

  • +2

After spending $400+ on all the HG kits I bought last week, I need to skip on this great deal. :(

    • How many kits did you get? Lol

      • ~25 of them. LOL

        • +1

Spending money on kids stuff on an adult budget is so awesome. I thought that’s why everyone else got a job to start with!

            • @zeno: 🤣 That’s exactly what I meant. All I wanted was stacks of manga, game consoles and whatnot when I grew up. Not sure what happened, but I now have to really justify buying anything like that…

  • +3

Anyone who likes Gunpla or wanna get into the hobby should not sleep on this deal. This kit is fantastic and the scale is just right for a lot of people as High Grade tends to be quite small.

  • No longer available ? Cannot see the price.

Edited: I can see the price after refreshing the page a few times. Thanks OP

  • Ooo I want.

Assuming this is a non-painting kit, right?

    • +1

Correct. It’s premolded in colour. Painting/weathering is optional.

  • OOS?

  • +2

All these gunpla deals trying to make me broke :(

    • +1

As someone who likes Lego too, this is peanuts and you get quite a bit for your money.

  • I'll take three 1/144 still over one 1/100. Also that Zoids was $51 last week lol

  • Not in stock anymore

    • +1

I just got one, there is still stock. This is 24mins after your post. Just refresh the page.

  • If you like your HMM Zoids the Gun Sniper is still $60.30

  • How are you guys finding Amazon JP products through Amazon Au search?

    • You can change the country in the app settings

      • Does it work for the desktop site?

      • nah, by doing so you will get charge for freight.

    • Think i need to re-phrase

How do you get Prime international deals/results to show when searching on Amazon AU? Fishing for the free international shipping on orders over $XX as theres quite a bit of good stuff on Amazon JP

      • No shit but I think Amazon is always trying to make you pay more than hunting bargains.
Just like if you sort the search via pricing from low to high it only allows you to go through like 7 pages and you can never find what you are looking for.

  • so full mechanics is >HG but < MG?

    • yes

    • Yes, HG (1/144) < Full Mechanics (1/100) < MG (1/100)

  • +3

    The $150 rrp is laughable.
EB Games and Hobbyco sell them for $70ish

  • -4

1/100 scale? What is this? A Gundam for ants?

  • +1

Amazon Japan raised the price for this by $5 yesterday. It was $53 for a few days before that, but I still didn't bite because I'm waiting for the MG that will inevitably release in a few years. The HG will more than suffice until then.

I've ordered 6 kits over the last week, and Amazon Japan has raised each kit's price by around $10 (plus one of them by over double its price!). So glad I managed to get in before they did that.

    • +1

Yep a lot have went up

  • +3

3camels indicated the lowest is below $50.

  • Missed it aaa!

    • +1

Try refreshing this page and clicking link again… I was getting unavailable, but now its appearing and I can add to my cart.

    • +1

Yeah I was able to place an order just now

  • Thanks just got one because FOMO.

    • I read your comment, then I started getting FOMO..

      I just ordered one too.

  • I need some help, never built Gunpla before but my wife offered to bring me back 4 from Japan, I didnt know what to choose so I went with below based on visual and I like Eva:

    RG Hi-Nu
    RG Wing Zero EW Ver.Ka
    RG Eva-Unit 1

    I need a 4th around the 10,000yen/$100 mark that's a very fun build.

    • MG Virtue/Nadleeh might run more expensive, but it's a beautiful kit, especially in Nadleeh mode.

      • I Dunno if i can get behind those face tendrils, looks like Davey Jones. But i really did the block mech design. I'll see if she can find it cheap!

    • +4

I don't know about the current price in Japan, but the RG sazabi is great and you would keep everything RG.

      • +1

        Added to the list

        • Sazabi is an awesome chunk of plastic. Prob my fave RG. For your budget you could get Sazabi and RG Nu which make a great combo to display together.

    • +1

      MGEX Strike Freedom

      • oos in everywhere. i heard raving review about this one

        • I saw them in stock here for ~$230 recently and was tempted, but that's pretty overpriced for what it is. If I was in Japan I'd grab one for RRP there if I could though.

      • That thing is awesome but out of my range, but $220 2nd hand isn't too bad.

    • +1

Did you mean the MG Wing Zero EW Ver. Ka? The Ver. Ka range is exclusive to Master Grades as far as I know. It's an awesome kit, so great choice!

For your 4th, I'd recommend The MG Barbatos. It's one of the most popular Master Grades around, and I think you'll like its slim silhouette since you're an Eva fan.

      • Yeah, the MG Ver.Ka.

I think MG Barbatos will be first alternative, has a technoman vibe.

    • Don't forget to tell the wifey to get tax back on the way home.

    • Get MG Wing Zero EW, it is sexy in my opinion

    • Getting a kit in the HG range might be a consideration to ease you into building, unless you have experience from other types of model kits.

Also have backup choices because it being available here doesn't mean you'll be able to get it in Japan.

      • Thanks for the tip, I kicked my Plastic crack (40K) habit a few years ago but I have some familiarity, plus i did a few 20 year old LM-MG Eva kits.

        • Ah all good then.

          • @Gehirn: Actually they were HG's and of very old design.
