Shoe Recommendation for Plantar Fasciitis

Need some recommendation for shoes that help reduce the pain of plantar fasciitis. I am currently suffering from heel pain and have no idea how to get some relief. There are videos on YouTube that suggest stretching exercises, which I have been doing but there is not much improvement.

Any suggestions for some shoes or in general how to deal with it?

Thanks

tried proper shoes? orthotics? heel pads?

my old man has deformed feet (partial amputations) and proper shoes and orthotics as recommended by his podiatrist have been essential pre-emptive treatment
try propet brand….have been using them for 12+ years for my old man and theyre great quality durable and recommended by podiatrist for patient with feet issues

edit: mate theyve even got a range specifically for your issue!

    • Thanks. I will have a look into these.

      tried proper shoes?

Yes. I do have a lot of shoes - formal, runners, hiking boots etc, but none seem to work.

propet specifically have ranges for 'problem feet'….thats what i meant by 'proper shoes'.
definitely check them out…very well made with a guarantee as well

    Stop wearing flats
Switch to "air" trainers or suppprt walking shoes only
Do the exercises you can find on the internet
    Take it easy
It takes a long time to recover from this

I had an injection and it helped

My barefoot podiatrist would probably recommend zero drop shoes or just go barefoot.

Vibram Fivefinger shoes is rhe best!

  • I had that for a while and one of my health guys took one look at my runners and told me to get something with a base that didn't bend so much like Brooks Beast or UA tri base. Which I did and after a while everything came good.

  • Ask your Dr about a referral to a Radiologist for a cortisone injection, I had this done 4 years ago & have been pain free since.

  • Been there and fixed it. Do lots of calf stretches to longate your calf muscles and improve flexibility and strength around the ankle. This is key for long term. Learn to walk properly so you don't over pronate.

Get ASICS GT2000 (2E) - wide toebox and not too much cushion. Boxing day sale can get it for ~$100.
Hard insoles if operating in work boots

Anti inflammatory pills if it gets too painful for short term. Take magnesium pills as supplement.

    Hope this helps.

Pill effect depends upon gut health & anti-inflammatories can mess it up even more. Suggest trying magnesium oil massage on feet which has an immediate anti-inflammatory effect. Arnica oil also works well & can be combined with the mag. oil.

      • Would this be okay?

BTW, I wonder how much will be absorbed by the skin if I massage it into the heel.

        • I've not used that brand so cannot say. I was recommended the 'Ancient Minerals' & 'Amazing Oils' brands as they specify the elemental magnesium & find them both great.

Mag oil is best used transdermally.

      • Hey OP, re:

'Pill effect depends upon gut health & anti-inflammatories can mess it up even more.'

I strongly advise against listening to this sort of anecdotal clap-trap. Consult an actual doctor for a health problem like this; not OzBargain.

'Suggest trying magnesium oil massage on feet (etc.) …

Erm, yeah, and while you're at it call in a 'Reiki master' to ensure your chakras are aligned, consult an astrologist with respect to which days you should be able to walk OK and can thus schedule your work, commence drinking only homeopathically formulated water (because, well, just because), and get the local witch doctor to brush you with feathers and whack you with a dead chook while chanting in unearthly tones.

OR … just go and see a real doctor.

        • get the local witch doctor to brush you with feathers and whack you with a dead chook while chanting in unearthly tones.

My local guru doesn't like being referred to as a witch doctor & for your information, uses free-range chooks, just to be clear.

Bit of a wait, but I'll keep an eye on the sales.

  • Have been looking at some of the shoes recommended… Gee they are expensive. Is there something more affordable close to $100?

  • was the plantar self diagnosed or confirmed by a doctor?

i was misdiagnosed by a new clinic for plantar after an ultrasound which found i had a very mild plantar (and shouldn't actually feel it). they sent me for physio and that didn't help at all.

after a year and half of suffering (after lockdown), i went back to my old clinic and they sent me for xray and a foot surgeon. surgeon found 4 bone spurs in the heel (2 on each foot). i was referred to a foot physio specialist and i had strengthening exercises around the calves, ankles and knees which ended up helping a lot with the pain.

new shoes didn't help but changing the insole for dr scholl plantar fasciitis insoles ($45~) was definitely a lot more comfortable. i used it with a very old pair of hush puppy loafers
