Note: Pick the Black coloured one, as it is the listing with the revised 2023 model which has a more secure fit for smaller sized batteries.

~A$27 after 3% MasterCard International Transaction Fees.

Update: Black one sold out, if you have longer length batteries (than standard 18650) you can risk it with the older model, as the only thing that changed between the two versions is the inclusion of a removable battery spacer (which you'll have to remove for longer batteries anyway) and a clip, also related to small batteries.

This is a Powerbank/Charger combo from XTAR, which supports charging/using power from 21700, 20700, 18700 and 18650 Batteries and has a battery percentage/voltage screen. It can also supply power to low-drain USB devices such as an ipod shuffle's charging cable (bad example but I had this problem with other power banks that automatically detects when to release power, not naming any names)
Apparently pass through charging also works so it may be a nifty little UPS for a raspberry pi/other board.

I found this after doing some research earlier in the year on powerbank/ battery charger combos, found this, and waited for 2 conditions to be met:
1. prices to decrease (which it did from ~$32)
2. The revised 2023 model (which fits batteries more securely due to the spacer and rotating clip) to be listed. (sort of, as when I asked the seller they replied that the black coloured powerbank was the newer model, and they were selling old stock of the other coloured powerbanks before they update the listing)
It's not a all time low, I know but it seems like a good deal as it's very close to the all time low (probably because I was waiting so long lol). I'll update this page if prices change.

There's a coupon that can be used to take US$2 off (XTARJUNE03). 8% discount (US$1.20) also applies when using AliExpress coins so you can use your massive coin stash earned from the other deals. The price I put in the title was using the coupon without any other discounts, and I rounded the conversion rates up just to be safe.

P.S: mods/anyone please double check the price for me as aliexpress has many confusing discounts/taxes (e.g seller discount) and I might get the price wrong for other users without coins/discounts.
Comprehensive review blog that I found useful
P.P.S: Batteries not included.

  • I'm happy with my red one, don't have problems with batteries falling out

As OP said, good for lower power devices such as led strips, this model only turns off when current drawn drops below 50mA for 90 seconds (the PBS2C is 10 seconds under 100mA)

  • How strong is the magnetic cover? Any concerns of it falling off if placed loosely in a bag with other items bumping around?

Any recommendations for batteries? Looks like 2x 21700 batteries would get you somewhat equivalent of a 10000mah capacity powerbank if I'm understanding right.

As for strength of magnets, it takes a bit of effort to remove cover. I haven't had a problem with the cover coming off when it's bumping around my bag.

As for batteries I bought this PB to use up some spare 18650s I had lying around, so can't recommend anything in particular. Have also tried it with a couple of new 3500mAh LiitoKalas (https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/32810252344.html)

It also has that soft touch plastic coating on the outside of the PB (which I normally don't like because it degrades over time and becomes sticky, however mine hasn't done that yet)

Thanks Op for the comprehensive description. I’ve always wanted to get one of these but couldn’t be bothered to do the research. In paid US$14.62 only after the coupon for some reason (no coins used) with 28 degrees.

  • Thanks for the great write up. Wanted to get it but it looks like Black is now out of stock.

  • Awesome writeup, I didn't get one cause I bought a different charger recently. This looks like a good deal!

  • Shows as US$19.71 without the code or any coins used. When added to cart price jumps to $21.68 (US Tax $1.97) = approx AU$32.80. How did you get US$17.09?

price got changed for the black coloured version as it sold out

      • Ah ok. So what's the QC3.0-US (Black), it shows as PB25-black. Is that not the same model?

        • +1

QC3.0-US (black) model comes with an extra US shaped charging brick, so it may or may not be useful for us aussies

@DogeConomy: Thanks for confirming. I suspected as much (after writing my previous comment). Appreciate the quick replies and the decent initial post/write up. I am in the market for something just like this so will keep an eye on this model moving forward.

  • What's the best source of batteries for these?

    • depends on what you prefer (e.g capacity vs safety), but I went the safe route and bought panasonic (brand name) protected lithium ion batteries (as they had in-built protection from overcharging/discharging/current, high temperature, and pressure build-up inside the cell).

      • Are these available in Aus?

  • Is this a different model? It's less than $15 for Black:

  • Does this have any advantages over a conventional power bank ?

    • you can charge batteries with it (if you need the batteries for other devices such as torches), and you can hot swap the batteries as needed to provide more power.
The ability to replace dead batteries compared to buying a whole new power bank is a big plus for me (less waste for the environment as I don't need an extra PCB/case)
