Wondering how people find courts that are free? Seems like the only thing to do is to drive out and hope for the best.
I don't mind playing with strangers but sometimes my friends and I go in a big group and don't want to intrude on other people.

Best bet is to book an indoor court for money. Try your local uni or high school.
Yeah, second this
A few of us go during the day once every couple of weeks. We go to an indoor court (if you’re in Melbourne, can go to Knox/Chadstone/Oakleigh). Costs $5 each from memory
Go anywhere 5am in the morning and I guarantee you will have your choice of court .
Most of the people using the courts are teenage or early 20s guys so just get there before they are out of bed. I find even 9am to be still empty.
Book ahead for a large group. Can usually do this at indoor courts and it’s normally pretty cheap pp.
If you have a big group you can usually book a court in advance, you end up paying less as well.
Some places don't accept bookings (I've only come across 1 in Perth) so yeah, you just have to hope for the best.
