Melbourne Airport - Priority Pass Eats Question

The T&Cs on the Citi Prestige priority pass (https://www.citibank.com.au/global_docs/pdf/citi-prestige-cr…) states that you can bring 1 guest per cardholder, but for Melbourne on top of the lounges there's 3 eateries that function like lounges too which are Urban Provodore, Cafe Sol, and Bar Pulpo.

The T&Cs of these eateries state the following:
1. Cardholders can use their lounge visit entitlement to receive AUD$36 off the bill. Each AUD$36 deduction represents a single lounge visit within the Cardholder’s existing lounge visit allocation for which the Cardholder will, where applicable, be charged. E.g. if a Cardholder registers 1 Guest they will receive AUD$72 off their bill which will be charged as 1 Cardholder visit + 1 Guest visit on their account.

Just wondering if we were to bring a guest to one of the 3 eateries, does that mean that the card would be charged $36? Any has any experience on this?

  • If you use the pass at one of the eateries, they will take $36 off the bill, if you say you have a guest, they will take $72 off the bill

You can use $216 worth of value ($72 each one) if you bring one guest at each eatery. I've been abusing this, amazing value everytime you fly.

    • $216 per visit ? Isn’t the max you can go is $72 for each visit ? $36 for yourself and $36 for guest.

      • Assume $72 at each of the 3 venues = $216.

      • FHG is referring to if you visit all 3 eateries with your partner when you are flying out. Given that you have unlimited PP, technically you can go to all 3 eateries in a single day.

        • Ahh ok. This is for unlimited PP. I was thinking of priority pass with only 2 free visits per year.

    • So they don't actually charge you any money, but allow you and 1 guest to eat up to $72 worth free? @Fat Horny Ghost

You can eat or do whatever you want with $72. You can confirm with the restaurant before you make your order.

I have once ordered an entire bottle of sparkling wine and nothing else that cost $70. You then settle the bill, they scan your PP card and flight ticket. Sign and go. Nothing charged to your credit card. PP doesnt charge to your credit card if go over the limit. You will need to pay the top up on the spot by cash or whatever method available at the restaurant.

        • They didn't scan my flight ticket just asked for number. But what he said for others.

        • Can they seal the bottle so you can take it on board as carry-on? (I'm going to be doing a multi flight trip).

          • @Obadiah: Assuming you are travelling international, you cant bring liquids on board that is not sealed in a Duty Free bag. The bottle you buy from the priority pass restaurant will not be sealed. So probably unlike to pass customs.

When I said I ordered a bottle of sparkling, it was finished before leaving the restaurant.

  • If you bring a guest, PP will use up 2 lounge passes and you can deduct $72 off the total bill. That is it. Simple.

    • @KaTst3R Ok so as long as you don't spend over that, no charge on your credit card right?

      • +1

Nope. You just try to spent till the limit. I often throw in like candies from the cashier table or take away a drink to maximise the credit. I have also once bought the guy behind me a pint of beer. And this was 8am in the morning. He was more than happy to drink that.

And even if you do overspend, you will be made to pay at the counter on the spot. PP wont charge the Citi card.

        • Thanks @KaTst3R for your valuable replies. Much appreciated.

  • There's a sneaky way to abuse PP if you have unlimited to get free food, drinks everytime you visit the airport. Doesn't involving making a faux booking then cancelling. But if caught they will cancel your PP as it records each visit.

    • You need a boarding pass.

      • At Melbourne airport they just ask for a flight number. Sydney they seem to check the boarding pass.

  • I do have a question in regarding to this that anyone can help me verify. On some early flight in the morning, its hard to buy something from the eateries if they haven't even setup and what's not; If I am flying in and out on the same day, can I use my departure boarding pass for the eateries on the same day?

I.e let say Melbourne to Sydney, landed in Sydney proceed to use the arrival boarding pass to buy foods and then Sydney to Melbourne, landing in Melbourne proceed to use the arrival boarding pass for the cafes? I know if its unlimited entries, you can go to all the cafes, however, not sure about using the arrival boarding pass. The T and C says "same day boarding pass" but did not specify that you can or can not use arrival/departure interchangeably. This is based only on domestic travelling as international travelling requires a valid departure boarding pass which is why on the example that Fat Horny Ghost mentions that they didn't scan his/her boarding pass.

Please report on your success or failure, so I can make better decision on signing up for the priority pass or not. TIA

Have used it on arrival plenty of times.

      • Wow, that's huge

      • Just confirming, they did not care even if its arrival boarding pass rather then departure?

        • Yeah, I'll grab something to eat when I land.

        • I did this today: bought $72 of takeaway Sushi after arriving in Canberra from Melbourne.

Confirmed they accept priority pass, ordered for self and used a guest pass (said my guest was in the bathroom) and was just asked for the flight number. Voila - all good, got my sushi in a takeaway paper bag then headed down to collect my bag lol.

  • It mentions " if a Cardholder registers 1 Guest" how do you register a guest? @76F

    • You show them the QR code from the pp app, and ask them to activate a guest. That's it and just verbally confirm that you have $72 of credit to use. The store knows the deal and that you will be looking to use up all your credit / maximise value.

  • So to clarify on trying to redeem food on arrival- this only works for domestic travel, not international?

I have upcoming trip where will be landing back in Melb from SIN at 6am, will I be able to redeem food on arrival with PP (I have prestige unlimited PP)?

    • Same day arrival boarding pass have worked for me for domestic, I dare say the same for international but don’t quote me on that.
