Pool Cleaner - Large Debris - Deep Pool

Hi All,
Looking for some cleaning ideas for a larger pool, pending a hip replacement so will have limited mobility. Currently have a suction cleaner on timer but doesn't help with larger items and some bigger debris. I've been using the skimmer and brush to get these most of the time but pending hip replacment the length of the pool cleaner "stick" and depth of the pool are going to make it near impossible.

I was looking at the vaccuum ones like the below as a low cost solution as very budget limited, was going to hold out for an aldi sale of sorts but unlikely till next summer i'm guessing.

Would love the Robot ones but the existing kreepy krawley suction does an alright job but the big things i wont be able to get at the big leaves with the current setup.

Would love any guidance around low cost solutions or if these stick vaccums for the pool are worth it.. kinda worried they wont have enough suction..

A lot of pool cleaning companies will do discounts for health situations, might be worth calling a couple and explaining what you need

    • might look in to it but might be a bit outside budget of sorts - but do wanna kinda put a little effort in still myself, just need to make it easier

Surely a man with a moustache and stubbies doesn't cost that much these days?

    • haha yeah, i'd still like to get outside and do it myself but won't have any strength.. got the mo but stubbies in this weather.. not sure..

  • You need a pool guy

  • Poolboy. Sadly it's getting a bit too cold to reasonably expect the poolboy to wear only speedos.

  • how big a leaf we talkin?

nearby palm tree and neighbours got some big leafy trees, so any wind will mean a swim and a clean usually but won't be as mobile soon enough so trying to find something to help make it a bit easier

      • Ah yeah no robot going to save ya I reckon

        • thought so, but stick/broom works just can't really do the motion so much pending my hip now.. i think i'll try the amazon vaccuum stick one but would be annoying for it to only kinda suck up a few leaves then be full tho

  • I usually use a rake for a lot of the larger leaves that have fallen to the bottom (Gotta love palms), which the robotic one won't pick up properly. The rake is attached to another pole, to get to the bottom.
I did experiment with trying to make a motorised pool skimmer, but my knowledge in electronics isn't great. It was basically a skimmer on a floating frame, powered by motors, using rechargeable batteries. It briefly worked, but was slow. When I added more batteries, it worked (went around in circles), then started to 'smoke'. Too much voltage.
The device you have doesn't look like it will pick up the long leaves we have.
    This looks cool.
    Otherwise there is this

Why not get a pool cover put on..

Was best thing i did to my money pit before getting rid of it.

    • its an odd shape pool but definately looked in to a cover, just moved the leaves to the top so that's much easier but i guess would be after a solution for when summer comes around as well so looked at the simple pool vaccuum on stick as an option but not sure if it'll eat up the leaves that are bigger than the suction cleans up

      • It probably won't. I found a rake on an extension (using gaffa style tape from Aldi or Bunnings) is the best with those pesky little palm leaves.

        DIY

      • get rid of the tree that is dropping large debris

      • Our cover was custom made with elastic sides, and 10 mins to put on, and < 2 mins to take off.

I think your looking for something that doesnt exist.

        • yeah i've looked at a custom cover and would need to get some hooks because of the odd shape etc. i've got a sail cloth that could cover it but would need to prob do before hip surgery if any chance of it..

i'll try the amazon stick vaccuum cause it's jusst the fallen deep end bigger leaves that is all, brush/scoop works when i put the time in but doubt i'll have the motion in a few weeks

  • Just let it be until weather warms up it should be fine for the next few months. Then get in there as part of your rehab. maybe with some grabbers.
That pole thing you linked looks like it might work for toy pools.

    • i just bought two of those haha.
it will be a solid part of rehab in the pool no doubt but yeah just trying to work out something better than the stick/scoop solution since won't have the hip movement.

      • Make sure you give us a review

  • Guys got a question - Can i use waterproof camping tent groundsheet to cover swimming pool ?
Groundsheet is water proof/UV Protect and the material is tough.
