  • Tempting… Already use a Telstra TV which uses Roku. Should I pull the trigger or wait for a deal on an Android TV?

    • The Telstra TV Roku is locked to ONLY apps Telstra approve.

Would be curious if this has full access to the Roku store?

      • I really only use Netflix and Youtube anyway

        • then you should be fine with this

      • Looks like it has most of the main streaming apps, other than Binge and Kayo?

Ideally, for a bedroom TV I'd like all the key apps inbuilt so that's a bit of a neg for me.

People will definitely buy a 1080p tv for likely more than you think it’s worth. Most don’t care/need a 4K tv when all they do is watch free to air tv.

    • Use it play minecraft on it

    • DIY active picture frame

  • Is this a good tv though, or will it be another that dies within a year or two or takes 20 seconds for the menu to load or channels to change?

    • TCL generally is not as unreliable as something like a Blaupunkt or Aldi TV

      • With Aldi, when the manufacturer support doesn't work, you just go dump it at the store

    • +3

with TCL support you're on your own mate

      been there done that

      • I disagree.. i had mine die at the 18months and they straight away said we will give you a voucher to buy a new one from the store you purchased it from. Plus 2 weeks later has a tech come out and replace the motherboard.. ended up having 2 tvs and sold the older one. But i might have been lucky.

        • definitely lucky. I had issues with sound output (annoying static), and they kept saying it was related to the soundbar, even though it couldn't have been, I demonstrated to the call-out engineer that there's no static on that soundbar connected to any other source, and even more, there was static connected to the other old soundbar from that TCL TV while old soundbar was crystal clear connected to anything else

still report said issue with soundbar and I called them multiple times afterwards, wasted total 4 hours on the phone and yielded nothing.

sold the TV for $200 and good riddance. never buy TCL, they shouldn't exist

@shxhshzhz: ooops sorry missed that on the title, too focus on getting a 65"

  • How is the Roku model different/worse?

    • Wanna know this too. Google vs Roku

      • Different OS. More apps w/Google and naturally greater support for casting.

        • Thanks, have no experience with Roku. So all the free to air apps will work (SBS, ABC, 7, etc) plus Netflix and YouTube? It's for my Dad.

Can anyone comment on the Roku user experience/UI vs Google OS?

          • @Darkheartz: UI is pretty good. Quite minimal. Last time I checked there was no iview app for Roku.

          • @Darkheartz: I don’t use these fta apps on my google tv, but if you can install kodi on Roku it’s easy to use add ons for all these apps and the best thing is you don’t get all the annoying ads on the catch up shows.

            • @Ronnnie: No adds? How so?

I really like the LG pointer remote. Does the Roku use anything similar?

Biggest drawback seems to be the 16ms response time (most other TCLs are 8ms or less)..

              • @tunzafun001: By using the kodi add ons for these instead of the official apps. You can then view all the FTA catchup content without any advertising. You also don’t need to register or sign up for those channels. A few mins effort but u save that by not watching advertising.

Kodi is great it can get you around the limitations of a device, as you can access content from legal and illegal sources without the need of official apps.

                • @Ronnnie: Interesting..cheers for that. I did notice 10play was missing. But this will be in Kodi?

Interesting TV. No lag whatsoever, uses half the power of the average 65, but that's because it's half as bright max as the average TV. Response time seems poor, but apparently not noticeable as the Clearmotion covers it.

                  • @tunzafun001: Yes there’s a 10play add on for kodi. You need to google instructions on how to install it. But once set up is great.

                    • @Ronnnie: Looks like this deal has now ended, but a Kodi based TV seems a no brainer. Will only get cheaper from here I think, so will pursue it later. No lag, easy simple layout, use your phone as a keyboard, only chews <5 watts.
Cheers for making me aware. Hopefully there will be a cheap 120hz roku TV coming up.

  • Reviews suggest the TV wont record a channel un less physically on? Anyone confirm?

  • Would I be able to use other's code?
    Perk member but no email

and how does it compare to the other one TCL 65" P735 4K Ultra HD AI LED LCD Google TV [2022]? it's only about $100 difference.

    • That is what the price is. Nothing wrong

  • Any good as a monitor for work?

  • You can't cast to Roku TVs right? (Not screen/miracast)

    • I just read a review that said the Roku app provides Airplay support and they could cast a MacBook to the TV. But Netflix won't work.

  • How to get perk discount? thanks

    • You should've received it in an email from JB hi fi perks

  • I only got $10 off code, How to get 10% off? thanks

  • is TCl better than SONIQ?

    • TCL is Much better

I lived in the US for a few years and TCL was consistently the best budget brand (rated by rtings). I had two Roku models and they worked really well - no complaints on the apps. I feel like Roku is way more reliable than other budget solutions incl. android

  • The 55" seems to tick a number of boxes for a bedroom tv, though I'm still on the fence for some reason.

Aside from the minor size difference, anyone compared with the Hisense 50A7HAU? Naturally, that's android, but if we put the OS differences aside, has anyone seen both and can comment on comparative picture qual?

Given it's a bedroom TV it will unlikely get much gaming time as our OLED carries the new gen consoles, though I note even these 'budget' televisions now have HDMI2.1 :)
