First-Time in Thailand, Tips and Destinations?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to travel to Thailand in July and want some advice. I'm staying in Bangkok for 2 days and want to make the most of it.

  • I love natural sights and attractions as opposed to cultural attractions (for example, in Vic, Great ocean road, Wilson Prom), looking for similar attractions.
  • Adventure activities interest me as well, like zip-lining, rafting, mountain biking, etc.

Can you please suggest some awesome spots or activities within 2.5 hours from Bangkok that match these preferences?
And can you please share some wisdom and advice for travelling to Thailand, such as dos and don'ts, customs, transport, etc?
I'm very grateful for any input you can offer. Cheers!

The only thing within 2.5 hrs of Bangkok is more of Bangkok.

You might get to Pattaya but there are only unnatural sights there 🥺

If you can embrace the city then there are a many things to do in Bangkok like visiting parks and travelling on the river by ferry and smaller smaller boats/waterways.

Transport? Download the Bolt app. You can book and pay the driver with cash. Sometimes there may be no drivers, just refresh every minute.

Anyone approaching you is attempting to rip you off.

Thai people are lovely, respect them.

Try a cycling tour. Have done several in Bangkok and it's actually amazing how you can find these peaceful and beautiful spots… Cycling alongside canals and what feels like the countryside at times, stopping for truly local lunch or an evening cycle around the temple areas that are empty in the evening. Can definitely recommend an old friend of mine who runs Just Nok Bike Tours. Plenty of others around too.

The bars are temples, but the pearls ain't free. Also you can't be too careful with your company.

I recommend Pattaya. Easy to get around, tons of attractions and theme parks, great beaches & islands, and fantastic nightlife. One particular part has a very vibrant/flamboyant party area, but it’s easy to avoid if it’s not your thing. Close to Bangkok too.

Not sure why i’m been negged. Guess its by people who have never been there and don’t know what they are talking about! It’s not Reddit, people!

  • If you go to one of those bars.

Don't give the exact change they don't like that.

Also you can just go in and have a drink. You have to do a lot extra. As they have a lot of pressure on them.

Shopping- Chatuchak markets (known locally as JJ markets) is huge and decent variety for touristy and everyday things. MBK for affordable and siam paragon for luxury brands and crazy rich asians. Both walking distance at Siam.

Food or bike tours are a good way to see things with some local help

My no.1 rec is to find a hotel near a BTS (monorail) stop. By far the easiest way to get around. Taxis are cheap but traffic is insane.

2 days is not much to see a whole lot. I wouldnt bother leaving the city. Again, dont under estimate the traffic.
Bangkok is massive and caters to all tastes. Half the fun is ppl watching and discovering random sights that end up consuming your afternoon

If you hook up with a lady and she drives you home to her place and reverses into the garage first time it's most likely a ladyboy.

  • Street-food - particularly banana pancakes.

  • Chang Mai and the Jungle Treks
