RC Buggy That’s Strong and Cheap for Kids? (1/18 or Larger)

Hi

I’m looking for a buggy style RC car for an uncoordinated 3.5yr old (and me:-)). It will mainly be used off-road and maybe skate/bmx parks. Ideally it will take a beating (accidental crashes) and it doesn’t need to be very fast - slower is ideal!
I watched a few YouTubes and they recommended:
EAT10
HBX Rampage
MJX hyper go h16e
To name a few. I am having trouble finding some of these for sale and those I did were over $100. the videos were 12m old. Additionally it seems that many RC cars are sold under different names for the same thing so maybe I’m searching the wrong terms.

Can anyone suggest a vehicle?

    • i have 2 like these. theyre difficult to control

  • I let my 4 year old 'assist' me with my RC car. Mine is Eachine something (forget the number) which is quite fast, but possibly like your experience, understanding the notion of left / right and the inverse when the car is driving towards you is difficult for a 4 year old.

I just let him hold the trigger/accel down while I turn the car - he loves it. I think he likes that we're both controlling the car rather than he just doing it alone.

I had thought about buying him a slower car that he can fully control, but no car is indestructible.

    MN99s
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/393999819173

    3yo kids can use it.

it's slow enough to be controllable.
it's punchy enough to work on sand, grass - i havent tried mud.
it's taken a few hits and is ok
parts plentiful on aliexpress - can upgrade suspension, drive shaft, motor,
    has lights, it's constant 4wd
    can carry 3kg of load
the roof comes off to become a ute (needs to be partially dismantelled, i have not tried it yet)
can drive up some slides at kids parks
progressive steering and throttle too - so you can pick a speed by pulling/pushing the lever more /less, vs just MAX SPEEED! like the cheap ones do

    it's perfect
    buy some spare batteries too

my kids took it to the playground on the big sandpit and even the other parents were amazed it could go on dry sand. And the other kids were approaching like zombies

note: previous models like MN91, MN90 i think were slower, etc
The s on mn99s stands for silver. If you really feel like it, you can buy other coloured shells.

!! You should ask for a commission - I'm buying one for my son. !!

      • Haha wow. yeah I have twins, so we bought two. One battery is a bit dead - kids like to have it max speed when it's up against the wall or trying to go up a slide that is too slippery.

when it blinks both blinkers at the same time, I think that's the sign to stop and change batteries.
aliexpress batteries i bought were a bit tricky to find, i got these five of these ones. which havent arrived yet

Your kid is gonna love it.

    • Thank you that’s an amazing reply. I added these to my watch list earlier today but hadn’t reviewed them because I was overwhelmed by the amount of RC cars on eBay!

Also, thank you for indicating the progressive steering and throttle, I assumed all RC cars had this but apparently not.

      • remote uses i think 4 or 5 AAs they last a while though.
my kids broke the remote on the first day by throwing it. So the base is sticky taped together.

Yes progressive steer/throttle is really good esp when theyre using it indoors and wanting to try to park it in places.

    • Top tip!

If you have lawn on your backyard, you can mow part of it more to create a "track" for your young kid to follow with the car
