eSIM + port a number from Aldi SIM

Hi there,

I use the cheap $5 Aldi SIM for my business so I can have a mobile phone number. My business is new and I don’t make calls from that number and I only receive a very small number of calls/SMSs. My issue is it requires a physical SIM. I would prefer an eSIM so I can add it to my personal smartphone so I don’t have to have a separate business smartphone.

Which eSIM provider has:

  • number porting so I can continue using the number currently associated with the Aldi SIM
  • long expiry

Thanks in advance

    Amaysim

    • This is the answer. As long as you have good Optus reception.

  • Fantastic! Optus reception is OK where I am.

Really appreciate you taking the time to reply. You’ve saved me hours of painful Googling and comparing.

    • I have been using Amaysim for @ 8 years now. They have been good, but I wish we had more data for $20 (I am on the $30 plan). I have about 700gb in my databank.
I did have an issue last year, where we stayed on holidays, and had little reception for a week. I went to buy an Aldi Sim, but unfortunatly cant use it for esim. :(

  • I have both Aldi and Amaysim and agree with the answers above - I use the Aldi SIM for my personal and Amaysim eSIM for business number, in a single iPhone.

  • A subtle difference with ALDI vs Amaysim I just found out which might help somebody decide what to do.
I got the Amaysim 365 day expiry $10 'As You Go (AYG)' plan, thinking that I can 'add' a normal unlimited $18 monthly plan for each month I needed it (ie when I am in Australia), and then I would revert to my remaining AYG/365day credit when it expires (ie when I'm travelling OS again) - this is how ALDI plans work.
But as I discovered that's not how Amaysim works. Instead, if you want to go from AYG to monthly they make you switch over completely, and the AYG plan stops.
Note that you can use any AYG credit towards the monthly plan though so that's good.
In practice I suppose it doesn't make much difference really.

  • ALDI still don't support Esim. I just got a Samsung LTE watch and hunted down a provider and ended up with Woolworths (Telstra) 365 day plan for $170.
