Effectively, save $7.39 (1.1%) over buying the CPU & the game from Amazon AU, but with the hassle of buying direct from the US store and the inability to pay with Amazon.com.au gift cards purchased with cashback.

Unless Amazon US refuses to provide the code in which case you'll have paid an extra ~$72 for the CPU.

      • I tried the coupon code - AMD wants you to open an account and download an app (that will only run on Windoze) with the CPU installed.

  • Wonder if this beats a 16x core 32 threads 5950x cpu

    • In most games by about 10fps at 4k. Didnt look at multitasking etc. Let me know when you find out.

    • It does in a few areas. Problem is the power output, its ridiculous for these 7 series CPUs. 5950x around 200w max. 7900/7950x is pushing up to 400w max load. The only way to outperform the previous series is to run these CPUs at high power ratings. The gains are very small in real world settings. Running the computer will cost a lot more! Plus the heat it gives off is at 90'C. 5950x is by far the most efficient

      • Depends on use case. 7000 series will pull all the power it can, but actually still performs very well in many circumstances when in eco mode (65w) or custom power limited settings.
But 5950x is definitely more power efficient at default settings.

        • Why get the CPU if you'll run eco mode or limited. In comparison from 7950x to 5950x - I have both. Save mode ends up either no difference or worse. These CPUs are only for high production work like HEVC encoding and graphic rendering. Those are the two tasks that drains CPUs the most. Even heavy multitasking while gaming doesnt stress it like those do.

      • Wow 400 watts thats ridiculous power usage

Probably my question should have been does a 7950x (the current top of the range AMD CPU) beats previous top of the range 5950x?

How's Intel lineup fairing love too know also?

Yes the 7950x beats it but the same problem as i said for both 7900/7950. The power consumption is ridiculous. Highest end Intel can be better than AMD for certain tasks now. They have an even worse power draw than AMD! Where 7950x maxes out around 400w. Intel are pushing closer to 500w! For someone like me who HEVC encodes 24/7 (Drains the most consumption of any task for a CPU) That is insane on the electricity bill these days.

          • @Whisper Quiet: So not much of a progress with the latest stuff, so sounds like better getting 2x of the prevoios gen for the production speed ok the whole setup of 2x pcs will obviviously cost more (matbe not to much cause prices are alot cheaper) but certainly wont in the long run with electricity costs over production especially what you need them for

Edit: was thinking of jumping to PCIE 5.0 and ddr5 setup since prices have been dropping, thankfully I come across this thread and you, gonna stick to my 5950x lolz
