I Need a New Watch for My Mum

Hey guys,

Sadly My mum lost her favourite watch while going to the emergency department. I was looking around for a replacement watch, she had a citizen. I notice most of the watches that make it on here seem to be Men's Watches. Anyone know of any good deals / sales on womens watches at the moment?

  • Depends on what she likes but as a daily wearer you could get a Tissot PRX https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-en/collection/all-our-watch…

Easy to say something like Cartier but also we don't know your budget. Seems females like Mimco too

  • She isnt into expensive watches as such. I think she is probably looking around the $200-$350 mark max.

Are you able to post a link to the lost watch so that we have a better idea of what watch style your Mum likes? Unless you can provide further details.

    • Sadly my mum wouldnt know, It was given to her by her friends for her 60th a while back

I usually log on once a day if i can.

          • @lonewolf: Well, it's nice that you're seeking OzB advice for your Mum even though you're on holidays. You may find a nice watch in Thailand, whilst you're there or duty free, if that's still a thing for watches.

            • @[Deactivated]: hmm damn, i didnt think of duty free, Could have bought it on my way in or at Singapore :( . I guess I can still do that on my way back. Although not sure these days if duty free is cheaper than sales in normal stores. But I could have purchased it and then claimed TRS :( . Worried about fakes in thailand.

Why are you going through his post history

@Downvoter: I see this query posed alot.

Why does this matter to you? It isn't even your post history.

Also, why do you think Scotty & his team have set-up OzB wherein past posts/comments are archived & available for all members to peruse?

@[Deactivated]: To find relevant comments to what’s actually posted. Not trawling someone’s history where they’ve mentioned they’re going overseas, and then re-iterating the fact when they’re asking about a watch for their mum.

                @Downvoter:

                Not trawling someone’s history …

No trawling involved. OP's comment about going o/s was in the upper half of the first page of their profile so you can calm down about that.

…. re-iterating the fact when they’re asking about a watch for their mum

Are you trying to tell me how I should be wording my comments?

                • +2

@[Deactivated]: The fact you’re clicking on their profile, reading through half of a page of comments, and then picking a random one to highlight by posting about it is the concerning part.

I’m more than calm, simply stating facts. You, on the other hand, seem overly emotional and triggered about the situation.

                  • -8

@Downvoter: Again, why is it so concerning to you that other members access post history when it is freely available? Afterall, each member is responsible for the posts made under their account so what is the big deal if they are read in real time or at any other time thereafter?

Methinks you doth protest too much …… for some reason/s ??

Will she consider a smart watch? They're popular with seniors for fall detection and answer-from-wrist convenience.

Might be time for a smart watch. Get a good one like Apple Watch or the equivalent quality Android watch if she's an Android. Find a good band on Ali Express like a Milanese loop. Set her up with some cool watch faces. Turn on fall detection if she's old. Walk her through setting up notifications and stuff, choosing which apps will send notifications to the watch or not.

    • I was thinking the same thing. It’s what’s next for my mum and the in-laws as well

  • I dont think she will go for it, but it is an idea. I guess with watch faces and bands , you can make it look like a standard ladies fashion watch cant you. She doesnt really use her iphone for most features but i guess over time she is learning.

    • You only need the wifi version, the range from the phone for fall detection is greater than the average suburban backyard.

    • Don't get her a smartwatch without consultation first.

There's a big difference between a watch that tells the time and has an aesthetic/sentimental meaning versus a boring smart watch that has features she may not care about .

    Get Permanent Resident

  • Whats her style? Did you want to get something similar to what she had before misplacing it?
Flashy? Understated? Big/small faced? material band she likes…? Quartz or automatic? So many questions. Can't assist without details!

    • I was just looking for sales to send pics to her and let her decide. But generally she's old fashioned so like small faced, gold colour and oval or rectangle shaped ideally or circle if not the other 2. I dont think she minds quartz or automatic.

https://lindajewellers.com/watches-sydney/ are great and their prices are on par with StarBuy (posted above). Bonus if you're in sydney you can go and visit them with your mother and try them on.
