Sim Cards and The Government

I've been getting and registering those Boost sim cards that make you an actual small profit.

However, I do have a bit of a concern in terms of doing this moving forward. Although this may offend a lot of people, it is a fairly established fact that those who think critically are aware of: the Australian government and its institutions can be quite authoritarian in dealing with its citizens.

To this end, I am concerned about being put on some watch list and maybe being surveilled due to activating too many sim cards. Did anyone else think of this/analysed this?

You probably are already, but you're more likely to get into trouble with Boost (and / or what I assume to be a cashback service) for breaking their terms of service.

No you're definitely the first person in the world to worry this.

    • Don't think it actually breaks their terms of service.

"No you're definitely the first person in the world to worry this." Notice I put "analysed" there, not sure what's the point of wasting your own time for such comments, I guess it makes you happy.

I for one would be happy for you (and anyone else engaging in such scams) to be put on a watch list. What have you got to fear? You DO care how what you do impacts downstream because of your profit seeking activities don't you?
Or does your concern about the nefarious possibilities end at the $$$ in the account?

I'd be concerned if purchasers on multiple sims were not scrutinised thoroughly, and registered somewhere if necessary.

The term critical thinking has been usurped by the plague of conspiracy theorists and cookers. The term 'critical thinking' is more often wishful thinking , self labelling

    • critical thinking

They keep using the word thinking wrong :)

      • yes indeed. "Us critical thinkers" have known for ages. Plus we can tell by the secret handshake.

BTW If someone was genuinely worried about govt scrutiny, posting on a public forum is sure to make them invisible.

Having multiple sim card activations generally means illegal activities, so I hope you are surveilled.

Because I want the government to look into people with indicators of illegal activities. Drugs, terrorism, child porn and people smuggling.

Nah, having multiple sim card activations generally means having a family.

      • Not when you join it to census data, or internet history, tax records, passports, etc

You’re definitely on the watch list, constantly activating and deactivating sims and burner phones strongly indicate terrorism or fraud activities that is highly suspicious.

You’ve probably got links to sinister organisations that we do t know about but hopefully ASIO does.

Have now that clearly youve had your account deactivated by the government 20mins after asking the question.

    • account deactivated

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of surveillance… maybe it was the CCP filtering out noise pollution.

  • Anyone know of any good deals on foil hats?

        'was'

        • I think OP lives on & hasn't changed their sex just because they deactivated this OzB account

          • @[Deactivated]: Spring has sprung, my friend

            • @Protractor: It's always amusing when others chime in for certain questions.

It wasn't a gotcha query as it's rather obvious that there are groups of users on here that are known to each other and are friends in real life, if not, just on OzB.
