What Do You Buy from Colesworth/ALDI That You Don't Think I Do?

I was peeping over the trolley of the lady in front of me at Aldi and she had a few packs of "knoppers" in her trolley. I knew what they were. I had seen them before. They're chocolate wafers. Though I had never tried them before. So I also followed suit and grabbed one.

It was very tasty. I think I'll be buying them more often.

It got me thinking, what do you buy that you think others don't? I asked a friend and he answered cookie dough. Tbf I've never purchased cookie dough but I might try. It comes in a tightly packed plastic sealed tube.

I would be curious to see what others buy and perhaps expand my horizons. Maybe a kitchen product, food, hygiene anything!

For me, I buy Turkish pide bread from supermarket. It's tasty. Reasonably affordable. Only a bit more than home brand plain bread. I buy disposable gloves to keep on hand. It's only a few bucks and Lasts a year or more for odd jobs.

What about you? What do you buy that you think others don't?

Coles international section has jars of British Branston Pickle. Bet you don't buy that. Worth a go, goes sublime with cheese.

Cheese and pickle sandwiches sum up my whole childhood!

    • But I remove pickles from my quarter pounder burger

      • Yes but have you had pickled pickles? This stuff is awesome.

Also, McDonalds pickles are rank so not surprised.

        • Twice pickled pickles are a thing?

          • @[Deactivated]: Honestly not really, it's just a different kind. Not cucumber pickles but carrot, rutabaga, onion & cauliflower. It goes very well with sharp cheddar cheeses.

Irn Bru, only when on sale.

Best soft drink in the world.

    • I used to buy it all the time when I was in the UK. It tastes kind of plain, but the ads say it's what real males drink so of course I had to have it. Between Irn Bru and Yorkie bars I felt like a proper lad.

Also they have banana shakes at McDonald's up there.

    • I always have that on hand for a friend who loves it, but I find it to be far too sweet.

Disinfect is a verb and doesn't imply bleach. There's several disinfecting lung treatments which were already in use using light and ionized gas. People are quick to identify words with their immediate environment, I doubt many would associate disinfect with fringe medical procedures which is forgivable…much more so than assuming raking forests is done with a garden rake and not industrial raking machinery to reduce fire load.

We do most of our shopping at Aldi, and sometimes at Costco.

We try to avoid Colesworth.and support speciality businesses. Remember butchers?

I've been in retail for nearly 38 years most of it in big business.

Big business justify higher prices to say they have a larger range, and operating costs. Then they screw their suppliers down for higher margins, rebates, longer trading terms, sales merchandisers, shelf space, endcaps/gondolas, markdowns on eccess/near expiry stock etc.

Then they will look at expanding into a new area as a trial, then when demand drops, they get rid of it. Kmart sent so many paint/hardware stores out of business, when they got into paint. Also look at all the independent record stores that died circa 1991 when Kmart entered the cd/cassette market.

Furthermore, manufacturing companies are shrinking, so now they are supplying homebrand products, as well as their name brand products to Aldi, IGA, Colesworth and Costco etc?

    Different recipes and sizes.
5 years ago I received a barcode list from Schweppes.
    On the list was:-
    *Pepsi cola
    *Aldi cola
    *Coles cola
    *Woolworths cola

Not to mention many other products they make under licence.

Then coca-cola small Amatil own Kirk's soft drink. Different recipe coming from the same factory.

Did you know Cooper's had 5 grades of homebrew?
    They have
No name products they supply with basic yeast to Coles, Woolworths, brigalow.
*Similar recipes with similar basic yeast under the white label, such as lager, draught, ale, etc
*The international series, which had a better great yeast.
*The black label range under the name *Thomas Cooper's, which had a better grade malt and better grade yeast that was only sold through independents.
*Morgan's (who Cooper's acquired @13 years ago) which had the same grade malt as Thomas Cooper's, and a premium yeast.
