  • Chinese MagSafe battery pack? Anyone used one of these before.

I don't have this particular one. I did buy a clearance one from a retailer ($18). The wireless charging part is okay. I don't really use wireless charging so I don't really know how well a proper one works. You are obviously trading convenience for inferior charging efficiency (no wireless charging can be as efficient as wired).

My one has more input and output ports and a little display about the percentage, wireless charging icon (not accurate though) and fast charging indicator (again, not very accurate).

The main issue with mine is the batteries inside, I feel they are worse than Xiaomi and Cygnett 10,000mAh ones. Charging efficiency is less than 80%. Discharging (i.e. using the power bank to charge device(s)), I haven't got around to test mine, but that's the bit I feel mine is worse than my Xiaomi one. Need to connect it and the device to a meter and the meter to a PC to test (need store all the voltage and current values for hours, can't be bothered).

As usual, you get what you paid for.

    iPod shuffle, anyone?

Width 64mm, which is exactly the width of iphone minis.

Seems to be similar to the original magsafe battery pack, full article, but the original is 4x 8x this price and less capacity, probably. For sure, if we're trusting it's 10000mAh here.

This is how the original looks on fullsized and oversized iphones.

I have one as a slim portable charging solution and its fine. will rejuice an iphone 12 to nearly full.

think mine is a heymix or some brand.

    • iPhone 12's battery is 2,815 mAh. 12 Pro Max is 3,687 mAh. If this thing is 10,000 mAh "advertised", the expectation is it would at least do 8200 mAh brand new (yeah, we know how these powerbank makers quote the mAh). Even if you factored in wireless charging inefficiency, if this thing cannot even charge iPhone 12 wireless fully, then it is false advertising or junk.

      • Yeah i Dont really care about the specs, its a magnetic-attaching power bank that is a convenient size to juice up my aging iphone 12 battery on longer outings.

I have a big 20Ah unit for when that matters.

        • Figured it was worth updating that mine is a ROSSMOSS brand and claims 5000mah, 18.7Wh.

          • @Laserface: Hm… I only have 10000mAh ones, so no experience on 5000mAh. We know they all overquote. I think I have tried charging 2 phones with my 10000mAh one in the past. Would normally expect a 5000mAh to fully charge an iPhone. However, not wirelessly though since that is far less efficient.

  • There is no way this is 10,000mAh, if you're lucky it will be 1,000 - 1,500.

    • Isn't it, like, 10000mAh at 9V would be the same capacity as ~3000mAh at 3.7V?

Heaps of room for vagueness in milliampere hours.

      • Wow, we just high school exam cram and forget the basics afterwards. Only kidding, a lot of things we learn in high school we don't really use afterwards.

    • If you only get 1000 to 1500mAh, then you should immediately return it.

We kinda prefer it to be around 9000mAh or higher if possible, but at this price, I am guessing 8500mAh. Also, I am assuming wired.

  • Looks pretty interesting, is this for Apple devices only? Would Android work? Doesn't really specify in the link (Unless I'm blind lol)

It does say applicable for all devices that support wireless charging

Thanks :) I was just thrown off by the Apple devices being used in the image, never really bought a wireless charger before, better to be safe than sorry after all :)

        • +1

It might work better with Android devices. I think Apple uses a different standard for wireless charging so Qi wireless charging is limited to 7.5W. My el cheapo one doesn't do 15W on i-devices.

  • 20W PD in or out?

MagSafe proprietary cable is currently the only way to charge at 20W wirelessly. Highly doubt this is 20W charging speed and more likely misleading/deceptive Chinese marketing.

    • 18w input and 20w output from the spec. Mine is on the way. I can have a test against my wireless chargers to see how it goes once I received it.
