  • I initially wasn't sure about this. Something about the gold accents wasn't working for me.

But I'm coming around to it, and the lowered price isn't helping. I already have one in this range though, the 16X, do I need this one as well?

    • +11

      Yes

    • +2

…do I need this one as well?

If you're asking a bunch of OzB members then the answer will always be 'Yes'.

If you're asking yourself a rhetorical question then the answer will be 'Maybe…but probably Yes'.

If you're asking your Significant Other then the answer will commonly be 'No'.

      • +1

        Yes

        And also

        Buy now, research later

    • IMO if you're not in love with it, then don't buy it.

You're not going to get much enjoyment from wearing a watch you're not fully on board with

FWIW I don't like the gold accents either

      • Agree, buy once buy right. Particularly if you have always wanted another colourway.
Wouldn't be hard to change that grey strap though - not my taste maybe the right brown strap would be good.

No point buying any of these bargains if you aren't really happy with them.

  • Wish the Panda version was on sale.

    • They have it for $269.

  • Damn this is a nice colourway

Tempted to start getting a nice watch collection.. been using a smart watch for years but just isn't the same

    • +3

Maybe just buy one & stop there haha.

      • +1

Haha.. i have about 4 of my older watches.. well they are all flat now and i might have grown in size so the straps doesn't fit haha..

        • sometimes getting a new strap/bracelet is as good as - and cheaper than - buying a new watch.

i recently bought a titanium bracelet for my seiko tuna night vision…kinda meh quality but it's nice and light and i had fun removing the links to fit. and it does give it a different look while maintaining the stealth black theme. also bought a butterfly clasp for a citizen auto that only months before i got a strap to match the tiffany blue dial

      • +2

        This is what I do.

I've repeated the process a few times, though.

    • +4

As someone who has 14 watches now - Kind of wish I spent more and just got 3-4

      • +2

You will appreciate a smaller collection of nice watches more than a larger collection of cheap watches.

    • I wouldn't recommend you start this haha. I started years ago and bought so many I lost count (probably 20+ so far). It's an expensive hobby to have.

The worst part is I just stopped wearing them because they are just extra weight on your wrist and don't add much value when you have a phone on you.

      • what you need in your collection is a titanium watch ;)

      • +1

I just stopped wearing them because they are just extra weight on your wrist and don't add much value when you have a phone on you.

The true value is not lugging a hot heavy phone around all day and not having to pull it out of your pocket every 5 mins to check it.

Also watches looks damn cool. 😎

  • +1

Bought this last time it went on sale, looks so damn nice!

  • Any one own an oris? Are they decent for the money? The starbuy cleanup one looks ok Oris Divers 65 Cleanup except the strap which is an easy change NATO

    ,

    • Oris is a cool brand. Definitely a great addition to any collection.
They've been around for a long time. They survived the quartz crisis and managed to regain their independence. They are still making some fantastic innovations (Calibre 400).

I really like that case and dial but I don't like the strap.
Short of being able to get a first party bracelet, I would probably put it on leather. Not sure what colour, though.

    • Yes good watches with that vintage feel.
I've always liked the divers sixty-five but they have jumped up in price so never bothered (were $1750 on special not ages ago). I think it would fit me better than the oris aquis I have and got that on eBay.

Not a fan of that strap either, I'd go for a vintage distressed leather strap like this (or get the factory bracelet):

      https://www.jomashop.com/oris-watch-01-733-7720-4354-07-5-21…

Ps. There was a nice green dial with bronze bezel but not on joma anymore. I'd also consider Joma and just pay a little bit of import tax and it would still be cheaper. US$20 signup too.

Pps. I wouldn't worry about the calibre 400. I purchased one from them (new aquis in the smaller size) but returned it as it was running fast 17s/d - unacceptable when the claimed precision is -3/+5 or something. They are also too expensive, and what you don't realise is you need to warn them an insane amount of times for the 5-day run time (+200 turns lol )

  • Thats one sexy watch!

  • Looks a bit busy but overall not too bad https://citizenoss.oss-cn-shanghai.aliyuncs.com/Public/uploa…
But a few quality watches is better than many lower end watches imo

  • What is the watch band size on this 20-22mm? Is it easily changeable with third party generic bands?

    • +1

It's 22mm and will be easy to change over.

  • Is this a good budget watch to buy if you're thinking of getting into normal watches? I have an Apple Watch (41-mm) that I like but I feel it's not suitable to wear at events like weddings and I want to wear something with a bit more class. Unfortunately due to the imprint my Apple Watch has made on my skin, wearing no watch would be a bit weird.

    • Is this a good budget watch to buy if you're thinking of getting into normal watches?

Yes, it would definitely be a good gateway watch, it isn't expensive but it doesn't look cheap. It is more retro than dressy though, it will go with a lot of things but not I would hazard a suit for weddings.

      • +1

It would look better than the Apple Watch if I wear this one to a wedding? Surely it's doable. If a 41-mm Apple Watch fits me well, can I wear a 44-mm normal watch or should I stick with 41-mm watches?

        • +3

Compared to the square, faceless void that is an Apple watch, or indeed most other brands of smart watches, anything would look better IMO.

I've got a 6.75" wrist and another version of this same watch. It looks fine, not too big at all.

          • +1

@Astronaut Joe: Everyone wearing a black square plastic slab on their wrists looks so dystopian to me. Like the matrix.

            • +1

@Skinnerr: But, but! You can change the band! 😯🤯
              So unique, so individual.

              • @O15: @O15 but, you can change the watch faces to your personal taste.

                Very unique, very individual.

          • @Astronaut Joe:

faceless void that is an Apple watch

            perfectly described lol

    • I'd be thinking about a simple 3 hander of some sort. First thing that comes to mind is a Orient Bambino. Some Seiko 5s also dress up very nicely with a different strap for a more budget experience.

  • +2

I got this watch from the last deal here. Great watch and really looks great on the wrist. Get a lot of comments about it.

Twice I have gotten "Nice breitling" Looked up the brand and it sure does look similar to some of them.

  • +1

Thanks @WN, I got one. I kept coming back to this one over the last 12 months because I like the grey/gold combo but jibbed multiple times 'cos I thought it might be a little oversize for my moderate wrist size.

Saw the deal, over the size thing , I still love the look of it , bought it.

    D.

@WatchNerd thanks for your deals mate.

Looks like a stunning timepiece and all the positive comments here persuaded me to buy one for myself as well.

  • @WatchNerd any chance of discounting a field watch soon?

  • Beautiful colors combination. I wish I still wear watches, I would have got it.

    • never too late to start wearing watches again ;)

  • WatchNerd - are you the owner of Starbuy?

    • +1

      No, Deepak is the owner.

      • -1

        Are you Deepak? lol

          • @WatchNerd: Just out of my own curiosity as you seem to be the resident watch expert
