SmarTrike STR3 Folding Stroller Trike - Red $90 + Delivery (Free with OnePass) @ Catch

720

Very good price. I paid more than double for this albeit it was a few years ago. Catch is clearing this. There is one available on Amazon and it may go to backorder.

Just be warned, this shouldn't be used in place of a real stroller. It doesn't really have all of the safety features that they have. It can be useful in certain situations. We used ours a lot.

Edit: Youtube tutorial and review. Slightly different name but I think that maybe a UK thing. Looks exactly like ours.

I believe RRP is $249. This is the official page for it.

Edit 2: Choice Magazine rated this 90%, Recommended.

  • How compact is it when folded ? Good for hatchback ?

    • +1

We throw ours in the back of a hatchback. Can be a little fiddly to fold, but that could just be us. This should be the right trike. Bit of a tutorial and review on youtube here

      • it's definitely more fiddly than a pram, but I'm sure after a few goes it will be easy

    • TBH the folding is pretty crap because you need to pull the front wheel off

  • Thanks OP. Needed this exact model.

That's great. I had to do a double take when I saw the price. Lucky I wasn't drinking anything at the time. I went and looked back at our order. We paid ~$213.

      • @ozbs25 - Is it good only for <=36 months or were you able to get more out of it ?

        • +1

We used to use it almost everyday. We took him on long walks with it. Pretty much thrashed it. We hardly used his real stroller.

Circumstances are just different now. We don't use any stroller at all now as he really doesn't mind walking (or we put him in a trolley) and we have a hatchback so they take up too much space. He is a little small for his age (he turns 3 in a few months) so he can't use reach the pedals otherwise we'd try to use it in other ways. My wife has taken him to the nearby park in it recently and I didn't hear her mention anything about it. One thing about it, the brake locks up all of a sudden sometimes and can be hard to unlock. I think it's cause we took him places it shouldn't really go and maybe dirt got inside the mechanism or something. In any case it's not that often. We just don't run across the road (which you shouldn't anyway) and it's fine.

  • Thanks OP. Great find!

  • Thanks op got one from Amazon. Don't forget $30 shopback challenge.

    • Yeah, it's backorder now. When I first posted, it literally said 1 in stock.

      • What makes you think it would be on backorder/where are you seeing stock numbers? Says instock in Melbourne. The "quantity 1" thing is for selecting how many you want to order.

Ordered 10 minutes ago hopefully gets fulfilled. Thanks.

        • When it said 1 in stock or whatever it said something to the effect of 'with more on the way'. I assume that means backorder.

        • You’ll be fine. I assume you ordered it from Catch. When OP said backorder, he referred to Amazon.

    • What’s this $30 shopback challenge?

      • There have been some opt-in spend X get X cashback offers from shopback.

  • Any other colour available?

  • Are these sturdy for decent walks? Had a Kmart one and returned as tyres started wearing away after couple uses.

    • I covered a huge amount of distance with my first daughter in a second hand smartrike, and then donated it to charity still in very good condition.

  • Thank you!! My daughter will have so much fun!

Dang it. Went to buy a gift card for Amazon and the $90 one sold out. Booooo

    • Are you sure? I can add it to the cart and pay for it still. Whoops it errored.

      • Fail to add to cart. Dang it again haha

        • Yeah it took me all the way to payment. I don't know if it would have let me pay for it but after I backed out it errored.

        • It's not allowing to add to cart but if you click on buy now, you are able to buy and pay for it. I just completed an order and it went through.

          • @BargainBragster: On Amazon? I can’t see the $90 price anymore. I’ve been refreshing every few minutes.

            Only 2 buying options

i noticed str5 and str7 models are also on sale. would it be worth the extra $ or stick with str3? seems the higher versions have leg rest. bubs 9mos. cheers

    • +1

Honestly not sure it's worth the increase in price. You can see the differences here. From a quick glance the higher models have a better seat for sure and it looks like you can have their feet up.

Our toddler seemed fine in a seated position. Sometimes he got a bit naughty and liked to put his feet on or near the front wheel. Maybe that's partly why they have those plastic bits there?

      • thanks! i checked if they have that legrest as accessory for sale but didnt find it. anyway i ordered one STR3 already lol. we'll see how it goes 😄

  • Thanks OP. Got one

  • Just found a $20 one pass promo from NAB… is this trike worth signing up?

    Bit off topic….
    One pass worth it?

  • I’ve got the next model up which can reverse the chair for baby. which TBH is overkill,
These trikes are pretty good. I do actually prefer the previous design which had better steering control as this one is not the easiest to control with a toddler

However at this price its a bargain.

  • Thanks OP. Kids turning up 2 yr old next month so bought this as gift for him..cheers :-)

  • Will this good for kid 3yrs old?

    • Yes honestly these arnt great for pre 2 year olds, purply for the fact the footrest is so small and kids will put feet on ground, causing leg injuries if moving.
      We learnt the hard way.

  • Is there any special trick to lowering the safety bar that goes around the child? I've used a fair bit of force but it won't budge..

    • What position do you have it in? I'll see if I can replicate the problem.

      • It's in the up position around the chair at the moment but i can't drop it down

        • Sorry, I meant the rest of the trike. Maybe it's some sort of safety feature that stops it from going down if everything else isn't in the right position. I was going to tell you to try to remove the bar but I don't know if you can unless you fold it down first.

          • @ozbs25: I ended up taking it off and undoing the screws on it and moved the bracket manually. Seems to have done the trick. Looks like a bit more force may have done it.

Anyway thanks for your help regardless. Cheers
