They've been the de facto standard in scuba diving watches for decades. Hardware-wise they've certainly got the know-how to wipe the floor with Garmin in terms of toughness if they chose to. Fitness tracking is a lot more about software so would be intrigued to see how they're going with that. This looks like more a token effort from them though.
What's a good Garmin model you can recommend just for heart rate/steps etc?
I buy Forrunners for many years now. Garmin is not really a basic heart rate and steps watch. They do make basic ones but I am not an expert… Maybe Venu?
Garmin 245 Music. Allows you to leave your phone at home but still listen to cached music/Spotify via bluetooth. Has GPS built in etc and is fairly cheap when on special.
Suunto is a totally respectable brand that makes quality products
Was almost going to pull the pin on a $199 Suunto Core just for the Compass feature, would this be a better buy..? 😅
Just been reading the specs seems only gps through connected app, so the listing is pretty deceptive.
Suunto is a fantastic brand for their mainstay models but the numbered models (3, 5, 7 & 9) were all deviations from the normal pattern.
This one is the cheapest/lightest and doesn’t have GPS in itself - just leverages your phone.
Apparently the heart rate’s pretty subpar too.
Always for fitness watches, check DC Rainmaker: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2018/05/suunto-3-fitness-in-dept…
Suunto is a respected brand probably similar level as Polar. But they can not compete with Garmin.
