    Sadly, no,
    these ones are the pre-Matter version
    the original ones run on Thread, but they cannot have Matter support, see Nanoleaf's explanation here: https://press.nanoleaf.me/2022/04/01/nanoleaf-and-matter/

    feels like retailers are flushing the old gen stocks out
    the Matter supported version just arrived, selling at the old gen's original price

  Do these bulbs need a hub like Philips Hue or just connect via wifi?

    They can connect over wifi or thread. No hub required.

    No hub is required when using Bluetooth. For the extra benefits of Thread, you will need a compatible border router.
