This is a very nice charitable action to give to the community, so well done OP. Hopefully there'll be enough food for everyone and people don't take more than they need or can use.

    • Given how OZB people abuse the hell out of coupons and other things online, I can totally see someone turning up and wanting to take everything.

    • Ask for halal/kosher meat

That's quite a common practice in many groups.

      • I have seen a lot of Burmese people converted to Christianity. This whole idea of conversion doesn't sit well with me.

Tbh, this kind of deal shouldn't be allowed.

People converting others to their beliefs & religion, alway makes me uncomfortable.

Some (including major) churches make a lot of money from those with very little!

But I've run a social enterprise (training, supporting, & employing unemployed) & free food service - expecting nothing in return.

I did it because I enjoyed it. Lots of great people helped, building a lovely supportive local group.

On my travels, I volunteer in poor communities like in Myanmar, give away food & clothes to homeless sleeping rough in Japan, but most importantly help build up the community & create meaningful work.

So know not all groups are only out for new members or what they can get from people.

As many (religious & not) groups offer assistance to those in need…

There should be a policy, category, or Wiki here for these offers.

Sikh taxi drivers have often asked me along to their temple for free food. Along with others. Am always interested in different food & cultures.

Unfortunately, some will take everything they can from volunteers.
Have had people trying to rob me while providing help!

        • Last week, a young Filipino guy was trying to convert a quiet, religious Fijian guy - in seat behind me on a Brisbane bus.

He had earphones in (not willing to listen to others), a religious site on his phone. Kept loudly repeating "Mother Mary sees everything…"

Told him not to Proselytise - trying to covert others to his groups beliefs.

Politely pointed out it was against social etiquette, disruptive & disrespectful to others who have their own beliefs. We couldn't easily escape him on a moving bus!

And that it is against the law in some countries because of that.

He shouted at me to shut up, I couldn't tell him what to do & that I was the Devil!! "Mother Mary sees everything… She sees you're the Devil!".

His preaching was so loud, moving seats was pointless.

I asked him - "Didn't your Mother teach you to be respectful to your elders?? Acting like this makes you look crazy in this culture!"

          He returned to his seat.
Luckily I got off the bus in a few more stops.

Reported to bus operator. They'd never heard of this before. Explained I've seen it overseas. In my opinion, a tactic used by cults.

  • Background about Centra Care

Centra Care Multicultural Church was birthed by the vision that God had given to Ps. Joshua Chandra on 05/05/05 based on the verse from Maleachi 4:6 "He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike".

As part of the ministry, we have food care, job care and counselling care to serve the community.

We also planted churches in Darwin led by Ps. Ferry Fangidae and Jakarta led by Ev. Dominggus Kenjam.

    • my opinion is that these guys are pretty harmless and they are doing good in the community

i'm against religion but this sort of thing is ok

now contrast to hillsong and the various christian faiths that are big time into child molesting and avoiding tax and buying property and selling CDs and pushing all kinds of identity politics…

      • i'm against religion

So what do you believe in?

    • Joshua Chandra

Sounds like the name of a convert. Conversion surely has to be on the agenda.

  • Indonesians… be careful when they try to suck you into the church

  • thats my area, you can put it on nextdoor.com.au if you like

  • Did anybody go? And how was it.
