Dell Alienware R13, This a Good Deal? - $1887

ALIENWARE AURORA R13 GAMING DESKTOP

Does anyone know if this is a good deal? It is for my 14yr old for gaming with a 1440p monitor.

Thanks

  • Disclaimer: I work for Dell, but I don’t work in sales or have any direct interest in whether or not you buy this system.

This is a pretty capable system for today's tasks. It should be able to run most games at high settings with good performance and even handle more demanding tasks like video editing or 3D modelling if your child is interested in that.

However, for future-proofing and as games continue to evolve and require more resources, you might need to consider upgrades in a couple of years.

    • The kid is only 14 though. When I was 14 I had to spend years begging my mom to buy a 3D card for the family computer and for years after all we had was that voodoo2.

Haha, yes. But but that was also 25 years ago. Technology and access to it was vastly different back then.

The hand-me-down computer that my kids use is vastly more powerful than anything I could have dreamt of 25 years ago.

If you REALLY, REALLY, love him I would consider these options:

      https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/gaming-and-games/alienware-x…

or the pre-order Xbox Series X Bundle: Diablo IV $799.
And then maybe check it out yourself…
If you get a company discount you should consider using this.
And try getting into gaming yourself and then you can play against him and then you have something to bond over.
      ?
(It's a joke where I say "if you really, really, love him").

You'll get better value from the systems offered by some of the regular vendors on here, e.g. Enigma PC.

    Is a laptop a consideration?
I see you are in Perth and metabox are a contender if so.

Agree with @Shoocat that if its a PC, and Aesthetics are not an issue a more boxy chassis from local vendors would be better value.

Go buy thiswith a 3070 option possibly. Will save you money, and you won’t have to deal with a hotbox and dell proprietary parts. You can buy a 1tb ssd and install it yourself. Keep in mind that wait times are kinda long. As suggested above enigma of is also an option, see this

No. E-waste piece of shit. Unupgradable, unrepairable, crappy quality parts, hotbox case with no ventilation. Gamer Nexus has a series where they review prebuilts from named brands, and the teardown on Dell are always terrifyingly bad.

If you don't feel like building one yourself, get the $2k build from Enigma PC. Better specs overall, and even with the low tier PSU and solid front case its still going to be a better deal than the dogturd Alienware pill

more over priced dell junk with proprietary parts

    $1388 with a 4070 through techfast here,

    • The 5600 deal is better, you can't use anything more powerful than a 12400F with a stock cooler (to help cool the VRM) on a crap H610 board, whereas you can drop a 5800X3D onto a crap A320 board.

      • That's fine but I was just providing something better value than what OP posted that didn't have the Dell tax applied.. if that's the better buy then I'm sure OP will decide
